The Department of Occupational Therapy is excited to share new updates in our curriculum. Responding to changes in our health care system, the profession’s goals, university mission, and student feedback we launched a new curriculum in June 2013. The curriculum is founded on the pillars of Practice, Service, and Research with our curricular threads of the:
1. Transformative nature of occupation
2. Evidence-based practice and research
3. Health, lifestyle, and wellness
4. Service-learning
5. Advocacy, justice, and civic responsibility

These threads are interwoven through the courses. Living our mission, students begin service-learning their first quarter and have specific service-learning classes where they connect classroom material to the real-world as they educate older adults on energy conservation at a local senior center, design back safety materials, and explore the needs of men residing at a homeless shelter, to name a few.
The program begins with an emphasis on behavioral health conditions and interventions across the lifespan. We believe at the heart of disability, trauma, and health is our psychosocial self; our identity, our emotional well-being. Subsequent quarters include orthopedics, neuro, infants/children/youth, and general medicine.
