Steinsland power plant

About

Steinsland power plant is the largest of BKK’s plants in the Modalsvassdraget river system.

Sections of the river system are located in the scenic Stølsheimen mountains, and the licence application therefore led to a conflict. The resulting development, when construction began in 1975, was smaller than originally planned.

Stølsvatnet lake is the inflow reservoir which supplies Steinsland power plant. With a height of 52 metres, the rock dam is the largest of the dams used by BKK’s plants. Water for the power plants is mainly collected with the aid of two transfer tunnels: one in the north-west, supplied by Stølsvatnet reservoir, and one in the south which channels streams into the penstock.
