Marvin Davis, deputy director for the Child Safety and Permanency Division, is responsible for ensuring better outcomes for children and families by advancing and supporting child welfare best practices that align with the child welfare practice model, state and federal child welfare policy and administration priorities. This includes Indian child welfare and early intervention services, child protection, foster care, adoption and adolescent services.
He provides executive leadership, operational management, strategic planning, coordination and direction of programs and services of the state’s child welfare system. He also develops legislative proposals and supports the division’s legislative priorities.
Davis holds a bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in African-American Studies, and a master’s in Social Work, all from the University of Minnesota.
In 2013, the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development Alumni Society presented him with its Award of Excellence in recognition of his service in the field of child welfare and outstanding leadership within the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
“For over 40 years, the Alumni Society has recognized distinguished alumni such as Marvin, who demonstrate what can be achieved through learning, leadership and passion,” said John Ruzek, director of Alumni Relations at the College of Education and Human Development. “The Award of Excellence specifically honors alumni who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership in their profession, served as mentors to others in their field and have shown exceptional volunteerism.”
