Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said Thursday that a potential reelection campaign in 2022 would be his final Senate bid.

"I plan to run for reelection, but that will be my last one if I run," Scott told The Post and Courier.

Scott also said he would not run for governor.

The senator said in 2014 that he supports term limits and would impose one on himself, running for just two additional terms after the one he was serving in.

Scott has served in the Senate since he was appointed in 2013 to take over for former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who left to run the Heritage Foundation.

The senator's announcement follows a wave of announced Republican House retirements. A total of 11 Republican members of Congress have said they will retire or run for a different office next year.
