Permanent exhibition:
The permanent exhibition called “The Story of the Roma” will introduce you to the history of the Roma people. It will guide you from the times of their ancestors in the ancient India through the arrival of the Roma in Europe in the 11th century over to the events of the Second World War and present days.

Lavutara. The Journey among Romani Musicians and Their Music

From aristocratic courts, rural music events, city cafes to prestigious world stages, the Roma are known to the world as musicians, or lavutara. Romani music can be academic as well as untrained, official as well as spontaneous, sung as well as instrumental, domestic as well as virtuoso. Despite its fascinating diversity of forms, genres and varieties, it is typical for Romani music to be an irreplaceable part of ordinary as well as festive life of the Roma. Through music, the Roma learn about the world and the world learns about the Roma.
The exhibition project Lavutara was created in cooperation with dozens of musicians, organizers of musical events, producers and musical instruments menders as well as other contemporaries. It presents the music of the Roma as a living culture from the perspective of its performers. This has been done on the basis of research following the life of several important musical families in Brno from the post-war years to the present. In these families music is passed from generation to generation.
The exhibition is accompanied by a rich accompanying program consisting of the concert series The Music Summer at the Museum of Romani Culture, guided tours and workshops.

The event takes place in cooperation with the festival Meeting Brno.

19:00 First violin Marek Balog and his guests from Budapest. On the stage of Museum of Romani Culture will performed Rigó Jancsi „Japán“ (contrabass), „Jata“ Ökrös László (clarinet), Jonáš Gézuka (dulcimer), Sándor Zoli (viola) and Horváth Gyula (segéd prímás).
The event takes place in cooperation with the festival Ghettofest.

The closing part of the Music Summer at the Museum of Romani Culture will be held as a gala concert
together with the annual award of the Museum of Romani Culture.

The successful exhibition of the Museum of Romani Culture Andrej Pešta: Mire sveti / The worlds of Andrej Pešta within the world roma festival Khamoro 2019 presents a curated selection of photos from a prominent figure Andrej Pešta´s (1921-2009) legacy. His selected photos bring an authentic view of the life of the Roma in Czechoslovakia mainly between the 1960s – 1980s.
