All but one vote for Francesconi

The Oregon Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former Portland city commissioner Jim Francesconi to the state Board of Higher Education.

Francesconi replaces Tim Nesbitt, who resigned from the board after becoming deputy chief of staff for Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

Francesconi served eight years as a Portland City Commissioner. He currently practices law at the firm of Haglund Kelley Horngren Jones and Wilder in Portland.

The Senate voted 28-1 (with one excused) to confirm Francesconi for the Board of Higher Education. The lone "no" vote came from Sen. Vicki Walker, D-Eugene. There was no debate.

The Senate also confirmed Timothy McLain as Oregon State Police superintendent. That vote was unanimous--29-0. --michellecole@news.oregonian.com
