OUR HISTORY

The Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School was established in 1986 as a primary school in Highgate Hill. It was a humble beginning. There were only three classrooms and no place for the children to play.

In 1987, the school received full registration status with the Queensland Department of Education. This milestone in Indigenous Education was a significant move towards eliminating barriers between Indigenous students and mainstream primary education

Over the next decade, the school continued to grow. For two years the school relocated to a larger premises in Milton. In 1997 the school successfully secured funds to purchase the current site at Acacia Ridge.

To this day the Murri School continues to thrive in Acacia Ridge. The school now helps students from Prep to Year 12 grow into independent and responsible members of the community.
