North Texas Food Bank’s 2010 holiday awareness campaign objective was to mobilize the public: to increase brand awareness and to support an increase in donors, donations and advocates through various outdoor, radio, out of home and online media tactics combined with strong PR pushes and media buys.

Led by RSW Creative and supported by Lovell PR and Asher Media, “Hungry Today” successfully promoted hunger awareness and helped to position NTFB as a leader in the fight against hunger; but most of all, it helped to reach the largest amount donated for the holiday season in the food bank’s history, $6.3 million—noteworthy during the worst recession in decades.

“Feeding America is pleased to recognize the North Texas Food Bank’s holiday awareness campaign,” said Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. “We know their work will have long-lasting effects to bring more hunger-fighters to the table. We applaud their efforts.”

The North Texas Food Bank is the 8th largest in the country, serving 13 counties in North Texas and serving almost 25,000 people each day. One dollar equals three meals and 94 cents of every dollar goes directly to feeding hungry families, individuals and senior citizens.

“There was a significant investment of time and resources towards ‘Hungry Today,’ both internally and externally, but it really paid off,” said Jan Pruitt, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “Our monumental decision to move forward with such a campaign was a risk, but it has proven successful tenfold—not only by increased donor dollars, but by creating a call to action to the community: fight hunger in your backyard today.
