Drew Brees and C.J. Spiller help Saints win a thriller in OT against Dallas

It was a record breaking performance by veteran quarterback Drew Brees.  In the end in overtime he knew the Cowboys defense was confused and he took advantage.

Drew Brees had a feeling after kicking specialist Zach Hocker missed a 30-yard field goal in the final seconds of regulation, that he would get the opportunity to connect on his 400th career touchdown pass.

He did just that, connecting with running back C.J. Spiller on an 80-yard touchdown that propelled the Saints past the Dallas Cowboys 26-20 on the second play from scrimmage in overtime.  He knew the Cowboys defense was confused.

"And sure enough I think we caught them with a little bit of confusion and that's what allowed C.J. to get so wide-open and then he's got to make the free safety miss which he did, "stated Brees.  "You know, a phenomenal individual effort on his part."

C.J. Spiller said, "When we call it and I lined-up I had seen they were having a problem, I kind of figured it would probably be one guy to make miss and fortunate I was able to do that.  Looked up at the Jumbo tron and made sure there was nobody coming."

Brees completed 32 of 39 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns. So how was his bruised shoulder?

"It felt good, "said Brees.  "Good enough to get the job done."

Coach Sean Payton said, "I though early on he got hit a little too much for my liking."

It was a thrilling overtime victory by the New Orleans Saints.  Final New Orleans 26 Dallas 20.

The 1 and 3 Saints travel to Philadelphia on Sunday at high noon.
