yourDictionary.com at White House High Tech CEO Forum

Forum Focused on Trade Promotion Authority and High Technology as
Key Driver of International Trade

July 13, 2001, Danville, CA — yourDictionary.com (YDC), the leading global language portal, was represented at the White House CEO Forum by Paul J.J. Payack, president and CEO. The Forum was hosted by President George W. Bush and Ambassador Robert B. Zoellick, the U.S. Trade Representative. The private session, held earlier this week, was attended by 100 high technology CEOs, senior administration officials, Senators and members of Congress. The Forum centered on Trade Promotion Authority.

In his remarks to the group, President Bush reminded his audience that high technology products represent some 29% of all U.S. exports. He emphasized the importance of the U.S. in providing leadership in the following four areas:

  • Strengthening international standards for intellectual property,
  • Targeting the removal of technology and regulatory barriers,
  • Ensuring an international technological infrastructure that supports both open standards and open markets, and
  • Creating a liberalized global environment in which e-commerce can flourish.

High technology has proved to be a primary engine for economic globalization. As such it has not only benefited the high tech industry but also U.S. workers, farmers, and consumers. Currently, 12,000,000 jobs depend on exports, and the produce from one out of every three acres on U.S. farms is exported globally.

"As the premier global language portal, yourDictionary.com has perhaps a unique perspective on globalization," said Paul JJ Payack, president and CEO, "Our customers come from over one hundred countries and speak hundreds of languages and dialects. The YDC community is an excellent example of the unimpeded worldwide flow of ideas and information."

Also participating in the forum were Grant Aldonas, Undersecretary of International Trade in the Department of Commerce, Richard Russell, Chief of Staff in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Floyd Kvamme, chair, of Presidential Council of Science and Technology.
