(Keeping right up with you Kathie)

Skateland in Bradford has a great adult night on Thursdays from 7:30pm - 10:00pm.

Admission is $6.00 and is an 18+ skate.

Music is old school and new school rhythmic style.

I had the pleasure of attending one of the best Adult sessions that I have ever been to! The Palace Skating Center in N. Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) has 3 Adult skating sessions.. Wed night from 9pm-11pm, Saturday night from 10:30pm-12 midnight, and Tuesday morning from 10:30am-12noon. You must be 18 or older to attend.

It would be helpful to include the name of the state or province in which these rinks are located. Spelling out the state or province name (instead of abbreviating it) is also helpful because skaters outside your country or your immediate area might not recognize the abbreviations.

Also, if these adult-night rinks have Web sites, a link would helpful.

I really hope skaters will learn about their local adult skate nights in this thread and try to attend them and see what they're like.

Semoran also has one on Tuesdays for 18 and older 8-11

Universal in Orlando FL
Only during the Summers 18 and older
Wednesday night 8-11

www.sparklesrollerrinks.com

I have been to a few more in Cali, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and Chicago that I just cant remember all the info. Ill see if I can dig it up. Here are the list of the rinks though.

Houston Texas has a great one on Sunday Nights. I dont remember which rink.

The Rink in Chicago Illinois has a few great R&B nights.

Orbit Skate Center in Pallintine, Il has one on Thursday nights I believe.

San Diego California has an adult night that I enjoyed. I dont remember the name of it but it did have a good adult night on Sunday or Monday night I believe.

Out door skating in Venice Beach or Times Square is always a great adult style skating. Its always Saturday or Sunday during the day time.

If i remember more then ill post them up. Ive traveled to alot of adult nights but I never write the info down. The list could go for days with me. haha

hey chuck I think you got some old info there.

Universal Skate and Entertainment Center in Orlando took away Adult night since summer is over. They are currently discussing which night to hold it on now.

Semoran Skateway which tends to be my favorite just went 18 and up Tuesday nights from 7-10. Semoran also does an awesome Sunday night from 8-11 which is 16 and up.

I will post Universal night and time once they make their decision.

Valley Skating Center, Donora PA (just south of Pittsburgh) used to have a Monday evening adult session during which, they had a couple sets of called dances. If you were still there at the end of the session, they would play what you wanted to dance to for anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Great for competitive sk8rs.

SKYBORN Skateland, Fairborn Ohio, just northeast of Dayton (and right next to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for those of you who might be military) has a Wednesday night DANCE session during which they play nothing but dance music. Runs from 8 til 10, $5 admission. No called dances, since the whole night is dance music. Do whatever tempo is on. Rink is now owned by David Ripp, who is the Grandson of Chalrie Snyder - SNYDER SKATE COMPANY. Well, Snyder is now gone but the skating tradition lives on. David said that he would hold the adult dance night as long as he has the rink.

The Castle in Loveland Ohio, northeast suburb of Cincinnati, sporadically holds a dance session on a Sat afternoon (5 to 7) or Sunday. But it is "semi-occasional" and you have to call for the schedule.

Hi Kathy,

We don't really have an adult night (YET) but we do have open "art" practice on Wednesday Nights starting @ 5PM till the last skater drops! We have one of the country's best organists move into the area, DAVE PADEN, who is also teaching here @ Skateland North GReensboro NC. If any one wants more info call Sue @ 336-406-0068 or Dave @ 336-996-5941. He's also going to be making more dance CDs as time permits in case anyone wants to add to their collections.:)

Hello Coach Sue!! I was so happy to read this posting. I was wondering what happened to Dave after the rink changed hands??? (this is Dave Paden from Cornwells, Bensalem Pa. that you mention here?) If so, I am happy he is still involved in skating, he is a definite asset!!!

The North rink USED to have an adult night, but Andy had so many problems that he finally quit doing it. I hope that he will start it back up.

I just stumbled on this site and now I will be a frequent member.

Saw the different posting on this topic and I wanted to chime in.
The majority of the posting are coming from the east coast and thats good. Here on the "left" coast, things are ramping up. More adult night upcoming for 2008. This will give the "skaters" an new venue(s) on where to skate in No Cal.

I'm currently promoting Adult Skate at 2 rinks in the Sacramento, CA area. The owners are "jazzed" because the adults are more behaved and the atmosphere is better than the kids. Here are the 2 upcoming events in Sacramento:

Grown Folks Sk8

This Saturday, December 29, 2007 @ Foothill Skate in Sacramento. (Wood floor)
Address: 4700 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Google, Mapquest or Yahoo the address and get directions.
10:30pm to 1:30am, Admission: $10 with skates.
21 and older will be admitted.

Saturday, January 5, 2008 @ RollerKing in Roseville.
Address: 889 Riverside Blvd, Roseville, CA
10pm to 1:30am, Admission: $10 with skates.
21 and older will be admitted.

These are special sessions, so date(s) are not consistent. R&B, old school and smooth jazz will be played.

I'm currently working on a website to display videos, pictures and announcements of skating events here in No Cali.

I'm looking for some skating clip art (flyers) to promote my events and can't seem to find any decent ones via the internet. Forum members, if you have any clip art available, can you e-mail them to me?

My e-mail address is: grownfolkssk8@hotmail.com

i'm looking forward to your responses and inquires.

I haven't found a specific Adult night here near Houston, but the closest I have come are:

Sk8Town
846 Rayford Rd.
Spring, Texas 77386
http://www.sk8town.com

Friday there is a 4-7 session that only has about 2 or 3 people.

And

Skate Champions Rollerworld
Louetta @ Klein Church
5504 Fellowship Lane

Thursday night is their slowest night, and is the closest they have to an adult skate night.

As soon as I get to those, I'll post back with details.

Fort Collins, Colorado - Wednesday nights, 8:30-10:30, 18 and over

There is usually between 50 and 100 skaters.

There is also an open skate from 6:30-8:30, so you can put in 4 hours straight if you want.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the St. Paul/Minneapolis Area rinks. My personal favorite is Roller Garden in St. Louis Park, a suburb of Minneapolis. There are four adult sessions there.

Sunday morning, 10-12:30
Tuesday night 8:30-11:00 60's- current music
Thursday night 8:30-11:00 R&B
Friday night 8:30-11:00 Old School, Funk, Disco

My favorite is Tuesday night...that's why I'm Tuesday Girl!

Also Saints North in Maplewood has three adult skates.

Wednesday night 8:15-10:45 Organ music
Thursday night 8:30-10:30 Disco, 70's & 80's
Friday morning 9-11:30 Organ music

This rink is much smaller than Roller Garden, but it's fun to learn things from the retired people who skate a traditional style on Friday mornings! Thursday's music is fun too.

If you are ever here, try out Roller Garden!

Updating my experience with the Chico, CA adult skate: It was awesome. Now admittedly, I haven't skated seriously in about 15 years and the adult nights back then were weak to say the least, but this was easily the best session I've ever attended.

This week was a special "Roller Disco" themed night, so standard adult sessions will be a little different, but: I'm guessing 150 or so skaters. At least half were in costume, and there were very few beginners. Rink staff seemed to think that adults could handle themselves and didn't bother with enforcing all the silly rules they have for kiddie sessions, so everybody was having a good time. Fast-paced disco/funk/r&b all night, except for Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" as the session closer. They ran a few games, which was good for a laugh. Dice game, Limbo (I tapped out a rung earlier than I expected to, guess I was over confident) and a VERY competitive Red Light, Green Light game. I took a prize in that one. Crowd was about 85% quads, with most skaters just cruising or shuffling. Some backwards skaters as well, and a few folks messing with some artistic stuff, but not seriously. Nobody was breaking, spotrexing, or rollerdancing, but center floor was available for any such stuff if that's your thing.

I talked to one of the DJ's, he said that their regular adult nights were similar, just without the 70's theme, so the music has more variety the rest of the time. That, and not quite so many skaters, which is fine with me, I use up a lot of floor! ;) I'll definitely be going to this again, although it'll be a few weeks; RollerDerby is pre-empting this coming Saturday's session, and I've already got other things scheduled for the next few Saturdays after that. Anybody within driving distance, it's worth hitting.

I am at the moment NO quad skater......at the moment cause I don't have any quads. Although I started speed skating in 75' and competed till 93ish. But I have had a rumbling in me lately and gotta get some quads now!! I have in the past competed in many Jam skate competitions in the 70's-80's.

I posted our Rink after hearing about Rollercade out of San Antonio.....I competed there many many moons ago (70's).

Our Rink Playland Skating Center, Austin Texas has an adult night on Tuesdays 7-10:30 200+ usually. I don't skate it at the moment. I am an Inline speedskater for now and have competed since 04'. Awesome site

We have 2 rinks in town but I've only been to Fantasy (Reading, PA). Wood floor, nice staff, clean, good snack bar.

Adults only (16+) Coffee Skate on Tues & Thurs, 1-3pm---organ music, almost everyone is over 60, me and a few others bring our ipods, lol, but the crowd is great, a lot of friendly people. $4 admission, $2 skates. This is my time to try new things, get tips from the pros, get a good workout, not so much a social session iykwim. But it's as close as I get to an empty rink to myself to work, sometimes there are 30-40 people on the floor, usually less. Obviously I don't work so I can attend smack dab in the middle of the afternoon, they allow me to bring my 3 yr old and she sits & watches everyone and chats with the regulars, she's the only child allowed in the building.

2nd & 4th Sunday nights 7-10 adults 16+, organ skating again but they have a live organist at least, I haven't been to this one yet, $5 +2/skates

Wed is family $1 night, $1 skates, any adult bringing a skating child gets free admission. This seems to be the more popular younger (30-40-ish) adult night, depending on the week it might be DTK night, last night was a little crazy. You can use inlines on Wed, quads only on the tues/thurs/sun skates. They play hmm, not sure what to call it music, top 40 of 3 yrs ago??

Oh found another, 1st Sun of the month, 7-10, Adult Jam Night, $5/2. This sounds like fun, I'll try it out in March, they're promising better music & taking requests via email for tunes.
http://fantasysk8ing.com/

Skateaway in Shillington, PA has a concrete floor, no adult night but they have Girls/Guys nights out alternating Wed's with free admission every other week, $3 otherwise. Their website stinks but there are other sessions, just nothing specifically adult. http://www.skateaway.net/skating_hours.htm

We have an ice rink too that I need to try out http://www.readingskatecenter.org/public%20skating.htm

Thursday Nights 18+ ID NEEDED!!! (adult old school/new school music)
9pm-1am $7.00 w/ own skates, $3 to rent skates

Sunday nights 18+ ID NEEDED!!! (Hip Hop / R&B Music)
9pm-2am $7.00 w/ own skate, $3 to rent skates

The thursday night is the better night IMO, better music, older crowd event tho I'm a young'en at 25.

I was there on a Sunday night about a week ago. There was a huge crowd even at 1:30am when I left. The rink is good with only a few small ripples in the wood. I regret that I didn't stop skating long enough to visit with the skaters there, as I usually do. They probably have the opinion that I am unfriendly. I like the rink; and the kind of skating is a lot like south Chicago where there is a lot of originality in the skaters. The music is good to skate to. I will want to return on my next business trip in that area.

$9.00! Ouch! I just got back from the Adult skate in Chico, it was $5.00 if you had your own skates. 2 hour session, 18+, every Saturday except the 1st Sat. of every month, when it's Derby instead. Had a blast.

I see on their website that Skate Country East in Tucson, Arizona still has Adult Skating on Thursday Nights from 8 to 10 pm. I seem to recall going from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday Nights about 10 years ago when I used to live there. That worked out perfectly for me because I had to get up and go to work the next day. Believe it or not, but 10:30 is too late for me to be out skating (& I'm not that old!) Since it's the only routine exercise I really enjoy, I don't like to lolly dork around. I skate really hard to get in a good workout, so I prefer to go much earlier to give myself time to amp down & get to sleep. Also, I really don't like skating on Sunday nights, because Monday (the start of a whole new work week) comes too early then. Sooooo, unfortunately, I'm stuck skating on the weekends during the day with all the kiddos. Thursdays were great for skating because Friday was the last workday and I could get up knowing the weekend was right around the corner! Maybe more adults feel this way too and that's why they don't go to adult night sessions.

Went to my very first Adult skate last night in Chrisitana, Delaware. Zinger, who is a member here, told me about it. I must say that it was fantastic! The skaters were awesome. I really really like the shuffle, jam skating. I am an inline skater, but I would like to learn how to do it. There was one inline skater there who could dance with the best of them. Is it easier to do the shuffle skating on quads? And can I do both? I like skating outdoors a lot, but I also would like to learn to shuffle. Now, don't tell me it will take years, as I am on the short side of 60 and don't want to be too old when I start to get good :(.

You'll get people that say you can't do it on inlines, but you've seen proof that it ain't true with your own eyes. I do think it's easier on quads, though, and by quite a bit. Absolutely no reason you can't do both, you can do whatever you want. Plenty of skaters switch back and forth between different types of skates. As for how long it will take, that's gonna depend on you.. some people get the knack right away, and some people... well, some people just ain't got no soul, you know? Most folks fall in the middle somewhere. The more rink time you get in, the faster you will get it.

Love the rink , Use to go every Sun. Night Until BBP started thier Sun. nights.....
Lots of good skaters But........The one problem that I had with that rink was the way they turn the pitch up on every song......

They like the songs played one notch faster.......
It makes a song you have know for 20 years sound strange & sucks to skate to......

One thing I do notice is that when they come to a different rink(Palace in Philly)and skate to the same songs they are always off beat cause they are use to the faster beat.........

Everyone can tell who the Chrisitana, Delaware Skaters are....lol

They do have some great skaters there...

Alot of them also come to RollerJam USA in Staten Island on Sat. nights too....
Love the Floor at Chrisitana

I love SkateWorld! There's also a rink in Escondido, CA called Ups N Downs that has an adult night on some Wednesdays. Just be careful as I've driven all the way up there and they've been closed, I think due to low turn out. However there's a group called Skate This that organizes an Adult night and there's good turnout for that b/c I think everyone promotes it. You can visit their website for more info, but there's Skating Wednesday...this means I get to skate tonight and tomorrow. Woot!

As far as I know these are the only roller rinks left in the Los Angeles area. Lots more ice skating here, in fact there's an ice rink about a block away from my home in Panorama City. But yeah, this is it for LA.

Cerritos is closer to Orange County than to the center of Los Angeles. I guess that's why I left it off...it is technically in LA County but on the southeastern fringe. The Valley is sort of the opposite side of the region.

When I say Midtown LA I mean just about in the center of town, just west of Downtown.

I just came back from my first Adult Skate at Sunrise Rollerland and it was crazy! Wow, it was so much fun and there were so many people that you just kind of rolled in the center if you were tired, since it was impossible to get off or on the floor.

And my skills are so, so bad. Everyone was rockin' it on their skates and I'm just like "Make a left turn. Make another left turn. Left turn. Weee, left turn."

Too funny.. I was skating the Chico adult skate last night, one of the employees asked me out of the blue if I had ever skated Sacramento. I told 'em I used to work at Sunrise, and that they have an adult skate some Saturdays.. long story short, a bunch of the regulars and employees there want to get a road trip together for the next one.. looks like the "next one" was happening right while we were talking about it!

I'm gonna try to set it up for the first one in April- that will be RollerDerby night in Chico anyway, so the adult session there will be canceled. Question for anybody who's been: How strict are they on the "over 21" thing? One of the employees at Chico turns 21 in July, but he'd really like to go. He's not a little goof-off kid, and he's a great skater, so it's not like he'd be a problem, but I sure don't wanna bring him down if he's going to get turned away at the door.

They're pretty strict. Card you and everything and I did see them turning some people away. I don't know why they're so strict; they don't serve alcohol or have horrific music or anything. However, like I said, they're pretty strict about it.

Well the pictures show a floor that looks a lot better than your other pictures where you were hurt. It still doesn't look quite clear and normal for skate floors yet you might be able to make it work if it is close to home.

Again find another place that has a real skate floor set up and you will think you are in heaven.

The below is a good floor and set up to restrict skaters from free romping across the floor. I know of other floors that are supposed to be even better yet this is a pretty good one.

Hey CA-North Barf,

Here is an old post of yours.

I've thought about this, but darned if I know where to find other like-minded skaters in the area! I never see any at the rink, and I've been out of the scene for so long I don't know who might be out there hiding.

It looks like you are on a Network ROLL with that trip down to Sacramento on the horizon. Next you have to work Oregon rinks and skaters.

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave

Edit-01: This same networking and travelling to other rinks is happening here in the Greater Boston area for skaters about 2 hours out of Boston. Paul had to stop his rented rink Skate Jams due to attendance and instead is organizing trips to area rinks with one planned for the Albany area which is 3-4 hours out.

That's OK by itself, I'm used to long hours on the road. The killer is that that puts me back home at 5:30am if I don't sleep. I've gotta talk the wife into letting me sleep all morning Sunday.. unless I can talk her into going with me... hmm.

Sounds too tough and only can be done once every other month or even longer unless you find something up North or to the East that cuts the travel time.

The only thing I can think is that you are going to have to either build skaters in-doors, or see if you have a place to build skaters outdoors. Once you build them outdoors you can bring them in-doors for the colder winter months.

P.S. Hoping you will grow at least 12 skating companions that will push you. Although even 2 to 4 would be helpful.

You will enjoy it, yet bring your own skates since the rentals are not that good. I have skated there with rentals when visiting my son. CHSC Floor Guard has been there and NC-Bethany aka NCsk8girl has also been to the Palace when visiting Philadelphia

Go read some of the older notes so you don't drive by, by accident, and have to come back around on Roosevelt Ave.

I skated there for 3 years every Wed & the Managment refuses to do anything about this DJ.......
POOR POOR Palace.........Lost so many good skaters......
Needless to say I only go once every couple weeks now......not worth the trip when I have RollerJam, RollerMAgic & BBP all so close to me.........

Another Rink I use to love was Cherry hill......use to have a great Adult night on the 1st Fri.
But alot of skaters choose not to go because they started doing it twice a month.......Sorry Tom......thats what everyone is telling me.
If Todd Had kept it once a month the crowd would have been awesome.....

My exact words to Todd were "your gonna lose all the skaters, it won't work"
Its ashame cause i love skating to Phil's music.....

This is sad, yet I guess my experience with complaining about the bad rental skates going on deff and dumb ears should have told me the rink management was not paying attention.

If you were one of the young guys (about 3-4) in the middle doing splits and tricks on Wednesday we probably kind of introduced ourselves when I visited in 2007.

Up here in the Boston area we have one place, Skateland, that always mixes stuff up rather than relying on a formula play list. It probably helps that he is the owner, a former DJ, a skater, and a 2nd generation skating place owner.

So do you know where some of those older gents are now skating?

When I go back down to BenSalem,PA which will be in a few months which place should I chose for an adult session with great skaters?

I have two points of reference for good quality adult skate nights, one being Haverhill MA's Skateland which is getting better and better UNLESS we have too many newbie adults on the floor which we had last night. Newbies just don't seem to know how to stay out of the outside edges and never look behind when they decide to leave the floor.

The Palace, when I went, wasn't quite as crowded or as mixed as a current Skateland Adult night . A few, yet enough to be fun, younger gals and guys did gang skates which I enjoyed pulling up behind even in crappy rentals that slipped. A few older skaters were also doing some interesting stuff that showed long term talent yet didn't participate in the chain skates. Also a few young guys who could do good splits, shoot the duck or turkey were goofing around in the middle which I always enjoy. If I remember correct only a few in the middle seemed to be learners and were doing quite well learning their bodies and skates. Anyway that's my good review of the Palace.

Let's see what you report

Hey Skating Dave,

I finally made it to the Palace in Philly. It was last night, in fact, for their Wednesday night adult session. Before I give my assessment, please keep in mind that the only other place I can use as a worthy point of comparison is Christiana Skating Center in Newark, DE. That being said, here we go:

My first impression was that the Palace is quite bright inside...literally. Unlike Christiana, all the lights seemed to be on and the floor was well illuminated. Speaking of the floor, it was very smooth (concrete with a some sort of laminate covering?) and quite large. Someone told me that the Palace was formerly an ice skating rink which accounts for it's length.

The crowd was primarily composed of skilled skaters from a wide range of age groups; there were kids in their late teens as well as folks in their 50s and 60s. I only spotted a few rentals, and even some of those skaters were quite talented. The caliber of skater seems to be very high and compared to Christiana, they are a bit more "individualistic" in their skating. This is in no way a knock on the many great skaters in Newark; in fact, many of them were there last night. From what I can tell, however, is that the trend at Christiana is shuffle skating, either in packs or solo. In Philly, there appears to be more dancing, spinning and so forth incorporated in people's solo skating. Perhaps it could be classified as rhythm/dance skating. Naturally, there is also plenty of shuffle skating going down. Whatever the case may be, it is very entertaining and offers an array of styles from which to watch and learn.

Another difference I noticed is that although there is quite a bit of socializing done at the Palace, it doesn't take the form of large lumbering groups of early twenty-somethings as it can in Delaware. Aside from the stray newbie or exiting skater, the outer parameter was kept relatively clear for shufflers and dancers. An announcement was even made to keep the outside clear for faster skaters.

One more thing, on Sundays at Christiana there are more jam/break skaters occupying the center of the rink. Not so at the Palace. That area seemed to be the domain of old school skaters working on their moves. Incidentally, there were also a fair number of talented couples showing off their stuff.

Though I don't think that the music and DJ were quite as good as to what I am accustomed to at Christiana, I am going to try to work Wednesday nights at the Palace into my routine (my schedule and the missus willing). :)

OK, sorry for the book report. Just ran a little lengthy in the interests of being thorough. Anyway, thanks to everyone for their recommendation -- not to mention driving directions. :) I'll let you know how it compares if I ever get to the Palace on Saturday night.

I was told that the number of skaters in attendance on Wednesday was a bit higher than usual due to spring break.

Also, the Saturday night session is preceded by a family skate session--thus the large number of kids exiting before the Saturday night adult session.

Hears is a list i posted. This list is more of R&B/Disco/Rhythm type skating.I have been following this list in every state i go to.Even know i don't fit in i have a hell of a lot of fun and no one seem to care.I enjoy skating to this type of music because this is what i grew up lisson to owning a rink in the 70-90s. I watching all the teams do there slow fancy footwork together as a group and the Ryder's riding in the fast lane with a bounce& a spin.i also learn neet little move every time i go there are lots of good skates.
I see you missed a few in N.J also R.I. has one Thursday nights 7:30-10:00 $5 but nothing like BBP.

Now I know you are a perfectionist and quite good at skating. I know from my own experience it wasn't the best of floors by a long shot and it wasn't the best of DJ / song ship.

Still, If someone who was a good skater would go to Philly would you say it would be Up, Down, or SideWays?

I think it is Up ^ even though I have skated better, yet I would understand your sideways or down vote.

I've never been myself, but I've seen some Philadelphia skaters and I know one personally who is quite talented. I'd risk my right arm to say that it's worth the visit on the right day at the right session. Then there's the situation where some good skaters don't skate the big sessions because they want big moves and more floor. I think a lot of them travel, so you may have missed some of the big wigs. I've traveled before only to find that my target rink isn't "THE" rink or that "THE REAL" session is on another day. I wouldn't say the Philadelphia style is big on different spins, but more on overall dance footwork. That isn't to say they don't have good spins...Heck, I saw a guy comfortably squeeze out ~20 rotations on a one leg front truck. Withstanding a perpetual spin, does it really get much better than that?!

Posted in the artistic forum but didn't make it here, the Wed nite adult session that has been a staple in Fairborn Ohio for over 25 years has now been moved to THURSDAY NITES. It is from 8PM until 10 PM now.

It was either that or it was going to be completely eliminated. At least we still have a dance session. Not many people go anymore. Something like 5 or so are at the session. SAD.

snip

I really don't think it will have a negative affect on our 7-11 session. The adult crowd we have on Sat. nights that I have talked to all seem to prefer a later session all to themselves.

I would do both, I like open sesions and adult only sesions. Besides I have a faw way to go so I'de rather drive up early and back late instead of going both ways late. And 7 hours of skating is better than 4 or 3! It'll suck for my brother, he'll have to take the kid hone between seasons. LOL

one i found out about a couple months back, but just got to try since i work nights.

robbens roost in louisville, ky. 21 and over, 11:30-2am every other friday. it's kinda confusing though, i recently found out about it and by luck went on the right friday. i went the next week and it was a compleatly different group of younger people racing around. i'm not sure if that one is considered an adult night or not.

i just stopped in the third week, didn't even take my skates, and it was the group that was there the first time i went. they explained it so now i don't feel like i got caught in some kind of twilight zone.

Don't know if this was posted yet, but there is an adult club night at Romp N Roll near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to the regular session listed below, there are occasionally additional late night sessions, sometimes with stricter age policies. I can try to keep those posted on here, too.

Saturday Night Club Night @ Romp N Roll
1661 E. Sutter Rd.
Glenshaw, PA
412-486-4117
http://www.rompnrollpgh.com
http://www.myspace.com/rompnrollpittsburgh
9:30PM-12AM (Midnight)
18+ unless accompanied by an adult
$13 includes skate rental
Bring your own skates $8
Music: Hip-hop, Rap, & R&B (DJ during this session is a shuffle/jam skater himself so he does an pretty good job of mixing up old and new tracks, and keeping the rhythm going. He can usually take requests up until 11PM)

There is also a Tuesday Adult Organ Skate there:

Tuesday Adult Organ Skate @ Romp N Roll
10AM-12:30PM
I forget the cost of admission, but I do know there is coffee and donuts available for 50 cents.
Music: Waltzes, two-steps, etc. on organ
No age restriction on this, but the crowd tends to be 50+ with the occasional roller derby girl practicing in the middle.

I am trying to get a adult skate implemented at Champion Skate in Houston. They have a great wood floor, a good sound system and a young DJ who now seems to understand the attraction of "old school" skate music. Right now we have a handful of skaters so we have not established a age limit, but I believe the owner would be open to it if we can generate a decent crowd. Cost is $6 for the session. Come out and get your groove on..

They only do an Adult NIGHT once a month - first one was last month, actually...but with the crowd, I'm assuming they'll be doing more. First one, NO advertisement other than a small paper hanging in the hall when ya walked in, I'd estimate around 75 people...the more you do, you can only go up, right? LOL Once others tell their friends about it and so on.

Sadly, there is no "specific" day/date (last Sunday of every month or the 2nd Tuesday of every month), but it will be on Sunday's...6 - 8 PM (though they may up the hours, too - there are no other things going on out there on Sunday evenings, so in the future, it's possible we could get up to a 4 hours session).

They also have Adult Time every Thursday from 10 AM - Noon - no kids (not even as spectators with someone who's not skating).

Both sessions are Adults...I mean...18 and up. No alcohol served - at all - at the rink, so they don't need to do a "21 and over" thing.

I have yet to try the Thursday morning session, but the Sunday Adult Night was AWESOME! Focused heavily on the 70's and 80's jam skate songs, but they also played a few (actually skatable!) songs from the 60's and 90's, too.

Denver area adult sessions

All are located at "Skate City" in various burbs.

Skate City Aurora: Sunday 6:30-9:30 $7.00 admission
Skate City Littleton: Friday 10-12 AM (17 and older) $5.00
Skate City Westminster Saturday 9-12 am (18 and older) $6.00

I have not skated Aurora or Littleton on adult night. But Westminster is OK. It might be a bit disappointing for skaters from really good skate towns with big rinks. The Skate City rinks are all tiny by most standards and the skaters are all average to pretty good.
They do have a good regular clientele so it's easy to get to know the group. Most of the adult skaters can also be seen several times a week with their families in tow.

The sound systems at Skate City (s) are not very good but the DJS play good music and will do theme nights on request for parties.

They will do adult parties on adult nights. It seems to be the usual thing to wear costumes to the adult parties. Because of the costumes adult skate sessions can be pretty entertaining.

I dont have any real complaints about Skate City. They seem to be fairly well run. Westminster is the least rule driven rink. Littleton and Aurora are much more likely to reinforce rules.

As an example - in Westminster backwards skating is not officially allowed unless called. But that rule is NEVER enforced.

In Littleton and Aurora they WILL enforce no backwards skating! There is usually only one backwards song per session at these rinks.

BURNING MAN... OPEN ONE WEEK EVERY YEAR 24-7 no age restrictions, but clothing optional and the bar is open. admission, free but burning man tickets are $200, I camped there last year. nice grippy floor got a bit windy and the dust storm and thunder showers made it unskatable at times. but still a fun time for all. floor was coated with grip dust. over a fiber board that was surprisingly skateable. beer and bacardi plus some vodka mix . plus coffee. no snack bar. so pedal your bike over it's retro night every night for a week. the first week in september for the past 20 years. see you there.

Hi Karsten,

o - o

About Post 2 is noted Skateland, Mass.

Sometimes the Portland, ME skaters come on down to visit us in two cars and then drive on back on Thursday night. They are great and I love their back mounted toe stops.

If you are up top in Maine, VT, or NH you almost have to have a friend to do the weekday trek and make work the next day.

So where do you live?

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave

If anyone happens to be in NW Michigan this month, Johnny's Skate Center in Custer is having their monthly adult skate on Monday, March 21st from 7:30-10:00 p.m. This month's theme is Mardi Gras and if you dress up for the theme you get a dollar off admission. Last month we had about 8 people show up. It was nice to have all the extra space to work on my backwards skating but I wouldn't mind sharing the floor with a few more people so if you're in the area, stop by! :)

I didn't look through every page but I did double check Kathie's list and I didn't see any from Northeast Ohio on there, so here are the rinks that I know that have adult nights (at least, ones I know have them right now... and I'm sure it's not ALL of them):

Roller Hutt in Garrettsville, OH
Tuesday night adult skate
7-9pm $3
http://rollerhutt.com/
Just started adult skate, Lots of great feedback about this skate night

North Canton Skate rink in North Canton, OH
Sunday night adult skate
7:30 -10pm $5
http://northcantonskatecenter.com/
This has always been a real popular adult skate around here (my sister's favorite)

GSFE cade in Akron, OH
Wednesday night adult skate
8-11pm $5
(best to call the rink first to double check their schedule on the answering machine)
http://gsfecade.com/
Heard from a friend that this is a great skate night, lots of friendly rhythm/shuffle skaters

When I find out others I'll share them.

Cincinnati, Ohio skatin place. Wed night 9:30-12:30 21 and over 7 bucks. The last wed of the month is free admission. All old school 80's early 90's skating music. Ages from 21-70+. A normal wed there is about 100 people. Neighborhood isn't great. Floor is in average shape, wood. Fast floor, hard to roll above 97. Skating style is similar to Detroit, or Michigan. A lot of sliding, and rhythm.
There are a few of us white boys that go, and we all have a good time. Some really good skaters there.
