The last halt for SECAS II was at Khodiyar in Gujarat. It was welcomed by Dr. Kirit Solanki, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Ahmedabad (West). Shri Dilip Surkar, Director, VASCSC and Shri Shailesh Joshi, Station Manager, Khodiyar, graced the occasion. Dr. Kirit Solanki visited the exhibition train and suggested that the students from Govt. Municipal schools and village students should be encouraged to visit it. He also congratulated the team Science Express for reaching out to over 1.8 crore visitors since 2007.
At the end of fourth day halt at Khodiyar, Shri Chander Mohan, Head, NCSTC, SEED, KIRAN, DST, GoI, visited SECAS II along with Shri Dilip Surkar, Director, VASCSC. They addressed the team and complimented them for the successful completion of the current phase. Shri Chander Mohan also congratulated the team for reaching out to over 24.7 lakh visitors and creating the record of highest number of visitors amongst all the phases of Science Express, since 2007.
Shri J. T. Akhani IAS, Director, Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and Shri P. P. Pandey, IPS (Retd.), Former DG, Gujarat also visited SECAS II at Khodiyar. The noted dignitaries praised the efforts of Govt. of India, DST and MoEFCC in spreading awareness about climate change through SECAS II. Shri Dilip Surkar, Director, VASCSC, visited SECAS II along with his family at Khodiyar.
SECAS II was scheduled for four days at Khodiyar. It received enthusiastic participation form students, general public and children of different age groups. Altogether in four days, over 18,500 students from 199 different educational institutions visited the exhibition train. The complementary activities of SECAS II in JOS Lab, Kids Zone and at the Platform registered good participation.
On 5th September, the first day of halt at Khodiyar, SECAS II team celebrated ‘Teacher’s Day’ by conducting different activities at the Platform and Teachers Orientation session. As a part of Platform Activity, the team held discussion with students and children on the ‘Importance of Teachers’ and the ‘Relevance of Celebrating Teachers Day’. Additionally, the team also conducted a Science Show in which they demonstrated different models and activities based on concepts of science and mathematics.
At Khodiyar, SECAS II team conducted Teachers Orientation session for a group of Primary school teachers on the first and fourth day of halt. In these sessions, the SECAS II team held a discussion on ‘Hands-on Approaches for Teaching Science and Math’ with the participating teachers. Moreover, the team also demonstrated different models and activities based on the concepts of Conduction, Suspension, Colloidal Mixture, Surface Tension, Double Helical DNA structure, Wave Propagation, Magnetic Levitation etc. It was appreciated by all.
CERC- ENVIS center, Ahmedabad, Red Cross Society team, Ahmedabad, Satguru Krupa Jaldhara Seva, Kheroj Village, Ahmedabad and NIF team, Ahmedabad extended their support to SECAS II team.
The ninth phase was formally closed by Shri Chander Mohan in the presences of Shri Dilip Surkar, and VASCSC team, with a commitment that it would soon be back on track for its next tenth phase.
A valedictory function was organized at VASCSC on 9th September 2017, to celebrate the successful completion of the SECAS II journey. Shri Chander Mohan, Shri Dilip Surkar, Dr. Bitapi Sinha, Scientist-G, Wild Life Institute of India, Dehradun, Shri B. S. Bhatia, Member, Board of Governors, VASCSC along with many other guests were present at the occasion.
During the event, the some of the team members displayed a beautiful presentation of their 7-month journey and the bonding which they had with each other as a team. Few SECAS II team members also shared their unique experiences and the learnings they procured during the SECAS II journey. Later, the team members were presented with certificates and memento as token of appreciation for their hard work and dedicated efforts for SECAS II.
