The Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction
The Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, were established in 2012, and recognize the best of the best in fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S. the previous year. The awards serve as a guide to help adults select quality reading material. They are the first single-book awards for adult books given by the American Library Association and reflect the expert judgment and insight of library professionals who work closely with adult readers.
ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits
The American Library Association (ALA), the oldest and largest library association in the world, holds the ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits in January. The conference draws more than 10,000 leaders and staff, educators, writers, publishers, Friends of libraries, trustees, special guests and exhibitors from the library and information industry for some 2,400 meetings, programs, discussion groups, events, in-depth conversations and exhibits, united by the theme “The conversation starts here..”
ALA Youth Media Awards
Each year the American Library Association (ALA) honors books and media for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, ALA awards, including the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards, guide parents, educators, librarians and others in selecting the best materials for youth.

Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week, Sept. 22 - 28, 2019 is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community – librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types – in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
Library Card Sign-up Month
September is Library Card Sign-up Month - a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind the public that a library card is the key to limitless opportunities. Library Card Sign-up Month also brings attention to the supportive role libraries and librarians play in transforming lives and communities through education and lifelong learning.
Annual Conference & Exhibition
The American Library Association (ALA), the oldest and largest library association in the world, holds its Annual Conference & Exhibition each summer. As the world's biggest library event, it brings together up to 25,000 librarians and library staff, educators, writers, publishers, Friends of libraries, trustees, special guests and exhibitors to engage and participate in the ongoing transformation of libraries and to network.
DIA
On April 30, 2019, public and school libraries will celebrate Día, a national library program that fosters literacy for all children from all backgrounds. Programs such as Día play a critical role in helping meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, while also fueling understanding and acceptance.
Preservation Week
During Preservation Week. April 21 - 27, 2019 libraries all over the country present events, activities, and resources that highlight what we can do, individually and together, to preserve our personal and shared history.Día
Día is a celebration every day of children, families and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Programs such as Día play a cirtical role in helping meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, while also fueling understanding and acceptance.
ACRL 2019
The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), will hold ACRL 2019 from April 10 - 13, at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, in Ohio. The ACRL Conference is a once-every-two-years opportunity for academic library professionals to access the best information, discover new ideas, and stay at the forefront of the profession. This professional development event offers cutting-edge content and countless opportunities to engage in conversations with academic and research librarians from around the globe.
National Library Week
National Library Week, April 7- 13, 2019, is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all. The theme for 2019 National Library Week is "Libraries=Strong Communities."
Money Smart Week

PLA 2018
Offered biennially, the Public Library Association (PLA) Conference is the premier event for public libraries, drawing thousands of librarians, library support staff, trustees, friends, and library vendors from across the country and around the world. This multi-day event offers over 100 top-quality education programs, social events that include author luncheons and networking receptions, and a bustling exhibits hall featuring the latest in products and services. The Conference will take place March 20 - 24, 2018, in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
AASL National Conference & Exhibition
The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is the only national professional membership organization focused on school librarians and the school library community. Its National Conference & Exhibition, held every two years, is the leading professional development event for school library professionals. It is also an excellent educational and business forum for the entire library and educational community. Learning, networking and the launch of AASL’s new National School Library Standards will guarantee attendees their place at the forefront of teaching and learning.
