Actor Veena Malik in an appearance on a television show on Monday alleged that her husband had been physically abusive towards her, days after news surfaced that she had filed for khula from Asad Khattak in January.
ARY News programme 11th Hour host Waseem Badami had invited Malik and Khattak on his show in what he said was an attempt to reconcile differences between the two, and also called on Maulana Tariq Jameel to 'facilitate' the process.
Although her husband asks her for forgiveness "every single day", Malik told Jameel and the host that there are two things she could not forgive.
"First, that he [Khattak] beat me; second, that he disrespected me... not once, but repeatedly," she alleged.
Jameel assured Malik that his 'vote is with her' but also encouraged her to forgive her husband and "give him another chance".
"Your happiness is dear to me, but I also wish to see you raising a family," he told Malik.
"If he is asking you for forgiveness, give him one chance," he said. "He is saying it before so many people, he should be given another chance."
"I cannot question you Maulana sahib," Malik responded to Jameel's suggestion.
She then asked the religious scholar to obtain a guarantee from her husband in the form of a written contract, to which Khattak agreed, saying he would provide a written guarantee.
Jameel warned Khattak not to give Malik reasons to complain in the future. "You are saying these things on such a massive platform, you must ensure you don't give her a cause for complaint now."
"He has been asking my forgiveness for a long time, but I had told him something clearly. The sun could rise from the west, but I would not be ready to reconcile with him," she said.
"He has annoyed me a great deal in three years, he has worried me so much," added the actor.
"I am ready to give him another chance but it will all be done through court," Malik said.
The couple were married in Dubai on December 25, 2013. They have two children together.
Malik had filed a plea in a Lahore court on January 6, 2017 for a khula (dissolution of marriage) from her husband, which was issued in favour of the actress on January 31, 2017.
The couple have 90 days to reconcile and if the defendant still fails to show up in court, the divorce will not be reversible," the actor's lawyer earlier told DawnNews.

This is a private matter and should be resolved privately. Per se this is only a rating attempt on part of Waseem Badami otherwise how distasteful it is to come on TV and settle a real Khula case. Lastly, Molana Tariq Jameel shouldn't have come on this show. If all the parties were serious Waseem should have facilitated the meeting and appoint Molana as elder cum judge and reconcile the differences.
Another man bullying a woman. Wow what a big MAN he is. If he likes beating up people why doesn't he take up boxing in the ring and fight against a man . Well done to Veena for standing up to a bully. Only courageous women like her can bring a change in our society.
What drama!
Is it safe to go back? A man treats you this badly then the whole saga laid out in front of a country that hasnt yet brought the idea of honour to a just balance?
OMG - My eyes! My eyes!
The only way Mr Khattak you can keep your marriage work for you is to accept it and then enjoy it, let your partner know that's the way you are and lastly a MAN can never sit at home and not work, you need to work and work a lot... the only way you can show your commitment to her is by NOT hitting her and START earning ... just the basics of marriage
i been thru this myself.
Mr. Tariq Jameel!!
wow-this is the most important issue left within 200Million people. Bravo!!
Another publicity game.
Why this has to be publicised on such a scale? Maulana Tariq Jameel is a widely respected religious scholar, he shouldn't appear on the TV for settling personal disputes of the showbiz people. A private counselling may have been sufficient.
Why go to tv to resolve a very personal matter is beyond me. All that make up, script and set preparation, charge sheet could have been avoided. And what has Badami, a news anchor, to do with it!?:)
Tariq Jameel = Great man
Why couldn't these people keep this matter private instead of making it yet another piece of showbiz.
popularity drama. Unfortunately molivies wantsto get famous as well .
She had to make it back in news somehow.
Women tend to go back to those who beat them up and abuse them. They like this kind of sadomasochistic relationship. Find it arousing.
What drama; playing out intimate family disputes on public platforms always smells like jerry Springer show.
The channel in question made some bucks though
Can anyone imagine what would be the situation the common Pakistani woman in? it's purely a Male dominated society! You need to understand every woman is a human being! treat them equally! Government and media must play more comprehensive role to empower women. Education up to 12th standard for every girl child should be a MUST!
The pathetic situation and status of women in Muslim society is well known. The government should take proper measurement and use media to bring them their right to earn and live with pride. Pakistan has a male dominated society. The time has come to understand that women are not less than men. They are even better than men. Law should be made to protect them and amendment should be made for their vacancies in government jobs and encourage them to learn and earn. Remember women have always played a vital role in the development of a country or a society. The woman was brave. The mindset of male gender should change towards female genders. They are no longer an object to satisfy your lust and grow your children. THEY ARE HUMAN BEING! And should be treated equally. Suppose if a man who is sole earner dies - and if his wife is not able to work- what will happen to his family post his death? the woman with the children will have to beg or suffer for livelihood throughout her entire life.
Your sister or your wife is not your competitor -they cannot be - they are your supporter - they do this for your and their family. I remember a man recently killed her sister because she worked. The man killed his sister and destroyed the future of two families! In some way or other - are we different than the man? Change is required and should start from now on. Women must stand up for their rights. Remember revolution only brings change. I encourage each and every woman of Pakistan to demand the government for an amendment in the law that will empower them.
This woman is such a Drama Queen.
Her advocate is wrong with the statement saying, if they don't reconcile with 90 days, the divorce will not be reversible. Khula is considered as only the first of the three divorces by almost all religious scholars. So they can reconcile within 90 days without needing a new marriage contract but they can also reconcile after these 90 days and but then they will need to get a new marriage pact (aqd).
This case is reflective of how disconnected people (Muslims) are from the teachings of their faith. Pakistan, being a Muslim country, should be a model for other nations. Thus, I hope the be able to comprehend interpretation and practice of a faith is influenced by the culture within which it is practiced. Obviously, beating your spouse is against the very basic human rights. However, many can (and will) erroneously link the act of domestic abuse to faith (religion) and culture. This is how inappropriate stereotypes are created. I must also mention that human ego destroys relationships. All the best to this couple, whatever path they choose to walk on.
Its a good thing to avoid divorce if possible as it hurts the kids too. Hopefuly they will move on now.
Just a move to get back in the lime light
Shame on them for making all this public. Veena is not angel also I'm sure.
A lie, only now that she is married, which is the most necessary requirement of this society to offer some sort of face and honour saving for a woman, she wants to get back to old showbiz habits. You will see she will take her son too with her, obviously it is family or may be a court matter to decide, and she will be back in the game of fame, news and controversies again. She loves it.
Abuse is abuse, you can forgive but do not forget.
Forgive me but subcontinent people have no education on domestic violence or emotional battering. No need to go to maulana on pandit. Our families have no concept either. Read up on what it is first. I'd recommend starting from 'Why Does He Do That?' - Lundy Bancroft.
Mr Khattak might be a bad husband but disgracing him on National TV and bringing up the personal disputes before everyone might not turn in favor of Veena.
Mulana Sahib is an ideal personality, respect them from heart But Islam believe on privacy and HAYA, this is not a reality show .. it should be held in private ..
Veena, the basic nature of a man or a woman never changes regardless how much he/she apologizes. Go to him if you love him and need him and he feels the same for you. Forgiving does not last too long; the basic character of a persons takes over again and again. So be careful.
Seems to be reality show
It takes two to tango and the fault can't be one sided only. They have been married for 3 years and have two kids together. Now she is accusing him of beating/abuse. Why the relationship deteriorated so much? The husband is a business partner with her father and they get along fine. The husband is quiet and is not saying anything. Therefore, I can't assume that she is right or wrong unless we hear from him.If they are divorced, the real losers will be the kids who need both mother and father for a balanced family life. If one is missing, its going to affect their upbringing. No parents want this kind of stuff for their kids.My humble advice is to forgive, forget and move on with your life. She had some expectations before marriage and so did he. Now they are finding out the real life which is not all roses, so you need to compromise. This is not a role in a movie/acting but a real life story and now its time to invest in your kids/husband and it will pay nice dividends as the time passes.
Ofcourse since the matter subjudice it will move further through court.
Its a personnel matter, keep it personnel, don't make joke of yourself I in public, for publicity.
Drama Queen is back on National Channel....Limelight...On..???
Just take a look at this woman's media history
Maulana should have shown maturity, is it something to be done on national TV ?
@Fazli R. Shah What a beautiful mind you have! If a person is trying to do a good deed, people like you still have a problem with it..!! Amazing
@AKA Why not? If the purpose is to set an example then whats there to dislike.. I think Divorce is a very serious issue and should be addressed very intellectually
A abusive person never changes, veena you are better off alone.
So our media is meant for such a coverage! Why do celebrity wash their dirty linen in public?
@AKA To make an example, to tell everyone the importance of reconciliation and forgiveness in religion. Whats wrong with that ? People these days do everything on TV / Social Media (they even do not eat their food until they post pictures of it on social media) and when someone is showing the good side of religion on media, we started to consider him immature !! also it is not Maulana Sahib who brought them on media, they are here due to their own life styles, and if they are already on media, by doing this Maulana Sahib is trying to tell everyone that Divorce is not a simple matter and one should do his / her utmost best to avoid it.
see what molana did here? he has no interest whatsoever in the lady, she has asked for her right and THAT is what has hurted molana's ego and ego of the man, he is not asking her to forgive him cause he cares, he is upset that a woman has asked for her right into the open. they do the same in UK, US and in Australia, this sickens me, when a woman ask for her right, after they has had enough, she is bullied into forgiving the man, and THEN the man ends up doing more damage, as a revenge !!
@outspoken - this is what celebrities like, gives them publicity, it is in their blood. Without it they wouldn't be celebrities.
forgiveness is better than revenge say islam, vena must consider on it. it is true it is matter of personal of family but being human and muslim we should say truth to each other even if it is bitter.
A good example to the public.Hold the ''wife beater'' to account.Veena Malik spelt her terms clearly , obtained a written contract and made sure there were witnesses. So many Pakistani men think of their wives as their personal punchbag to vent their frustrations.
What do women have to do to earn a little respect? Even being a mother with young children is not enough for men to think twice before raising their hand. Shame.I'm glad she made noise and brought it to the public attention about it because it is not acceptable.Too often violence against women is taken as 'routine', 'light' matter and brushed under the carpet. It is hush- hushed because 'beyzati hogi' or 'tamasha' 'nahin chahiay' . Too often the women are made to feel guilty and take blame for a crime the man has committed. 'She must have provoked him'... she should tolerate it for the sake of her children etc'is often heard. And so the problem goes on . Women suffer in silence. Well NO MORE! It's time to demand justice!
Thanks for your kind decision as well as keeping public entertained.
JUST A DRAMA ONLY,,,,
Another topi drama to gain cheap publicity!!!
such a shameful media coverage.....non issues becoming issues
Sorry to say but she got married to a wrong man. But I still wish her Good luck even though this relationship has a very tough road ahead.
@sukhera : Sometimes divorce is the best solution to get out of a messy relationship.
Why are Pakistani men physically abusive to their women? It seems to be a common thing here.
may the couple understands each other well and live happily live together from now onward but I think it will take an extra mile for Veena to bring a fruitful result. veena should understand well that her husband will never agree to let her join film & TV acting again, she has to compromise on this.
@The end is near Love at first sight is always dangerous!!!
@zarah That's right sweetness!
We are missing a point here. Why should a private matter of domestic abuse be discussed on TV? Well did we know that many channels and people do it to get TRPs. I am sure Veena and her husband know this very well.
Yes an abusive person never changes. Its not that don't want to, its like they don't have to.bcz they need not to....
Reconciliation between Veena Malik and Assad Khattak, regardless of the forum, is in the best interests of their children. I hope and pray that the marriage works.
@zubaida Khan absolutely. just appears to be cheap publicity after the flop episode from bollywood
Nothing is going to change. Th same matter will b back in court in a couple of years. Good luck though. Such men don't change overnight.
drama ! Any decent couple would not be discussing such things on a TV.
Just wondering how much they were paid for such a drama and entertainment.
@The end is near . Its easy to say for somebody else. If the marriage is dissolved, their kids will suffer the most . kids from broken families usually end up on the wrong side of the law and their lives are shattered for ever.
Funny as usual..
Dear Veena, run as far as possible. Do not let anyone pressure you. The abusers never change. It will continue, maybe even become worse
@white noise yeah bullied.. right.. We are talking about Veena Malik and judging from her history its highly likely that she is just playing an innocent victim and using the domestic violence and abuse card to get out of a relationship she has got tired of. If you wanna leave, leave. Why are you trying to use the oldest trick in the book to defame a man who is most likely a victim of circumstances that you created in his surroundings.

@AKA 100% with you.
Forgive and become abused again.
