Block P

Block P is a collaborative group of student-athletes that serve as an advisory body to the Athletic Department administration and a link to current student-athletes. Each team has two representatives on Block P who promote The Mustang Way, the core values of the Athletic Department, and assist in organizing community service projects for all student athletes.

The purpose of Block P is to increase community service, promote sportsmanship and unity, and elevate Cal Poly attendance and spirit. Block P unifies Cal Poly student-athletes around their annual philanthropic initiatives such as Adopt-an-Angel, the Big West Conference Coin Drive, reading programs in local schools, and more. 

 

History
The Block P society of Cal Poly was organized in 1921 and has continued as an active organization for letterman since that time. With the growth of the group to 1948, it became necessary to reorganize the administration of the society into an elected executive body which represents the various sports in which the school participates. Activities used to include the annual “Spring Fling,” and other various activities in San Luis Obispo. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has held onto the traditional Block P name and now the two are used interchangeably.

Block-P Mission Statement
Block-P is a collaborative group of student-athletes that strive to promote unity among all sports, increase community involvement, and elevate athletic attendance and spirit within the University. We also serve as an advisory body to the Athletic Administration and a communication link to faculty and our fellow student-athletes.

National SAAC
A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.  Presently, there are separate national SAACs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SAACs.
