The Athletic, Copyright Infringements and Copy/Paste Comments. by eurfryn in LiverpoolFC

[–]medcur 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This:

For now this rule is just for The Athletic, as they have been the only ones contacting Reddit. So if you are posting an article that is on another paywalled site, for example The Times, we are still allowing the article to be copy and pasted. It will be up to user discretion if they want to copy the article or not.

But then:

We want to support good journalism. Sites like The Athletic deserve the subscription fee, and we should really be backing it if we can.

Either the rule should apply to none or all.

I live in the buildings at Sarnia & Wonderland. Never really had any issues. It's walking distance to UWO. There's plenty of little parks close by and trails to walk.

[STORIES] How did you start supporting LFC? by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]medcur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the early to mid 70s you really chose between United or Liverpool as to who to support. We always had sport on in my house so watched Liverpool a lot and they were the obvious choice. 45 years in and it's still a great ride.

My friends tell me I could write a book about not giving a single fuck because for the majority of things in life I don't.

What I care about I care about with every fibre of my being and I focus on that. I don't think I ever really had the time or energy for drama, bullshit, negativity or such things but the discovery of the tumour and the possible ramifications helped fine tune that.

Sometimes you will be overcome but I hope you can find the strength to help each other through. It's certainly not easy at times but I find focussing solely on things within my control is what gets me through.

I think this where the tumour is a positive thing in my life. I live with the threat of things going wrong at any moment so it gives a perspective. I've hit rock bottom in other areas of my life but the tumour creates a balance which meant I was able to draw myself back. I'm lucky and know it.

I have close friends and family members with various degrees of mental health issues and honestly know what I'm going through doesn't compare to what they are. All I can do is use the positivity I'm able to gain from my issues to provide whatever support I can to those who need it.

I find most people don't get that. They often seem to perceive themselves as taking a really negative approach if they were in the situation instead of realising that it's just what it is so you get on with it.

I don't feel I have any choice except to move forward.

I think this is an incredibly important statement. I have a tumour on my spinal cord at around C7. I am told at best I'm supposed to be a quadrilplegic and at worst I'm not supposed to be able to breathe but have somehow avoided both eventualities which nobody can explain. Was there a moment when all felt lost but that moment gave you the inspiration to continue moving forward?

A H&S Association working alongside a SC is a really good way of doing things. It is true funds raised by the SC do go into the school's account and funds raised by the H&S are kept by the association. There is generally a lot of crossover between the two groups because it is usually the same set of parents engaged within the school.

SC are mandated by the board and a H&S isn't but every school should have a H&S because they do a lot of good. Having a principal as a member of the H&S is a great idea and there are associations who will pay the fee for the principal's membership. Thames Valley Council of Home and School Associations and OFHSA are great resources for associations.

An association has be in good standing for the insurance to valid and there is an association fee to cover the insurance which is separate from the individual membership fee a person/family pays.

The best fish and chips I've had outside of England. Have the homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw too. It's really the best.

My daughter was 10 when she told me she knew she was a boy and wanted puberty blockers. I told her that she has a long process to go through before that happens but she had my full support. I talked to her school who were fully supportive, called him by the name he had chosen, referred to him as my son and made sure all who dealt with him in my presence recognised him as the person he was. My other daughter called him her brother. However, his mother would not accept it and so in our separation agreement I had to have it specified that if doctors agreed this was the road to be taken then the mother could not stand in the way.

My daughter is now my daughter again but I'm 100% certain, at some point, I'll have a son again. If I do, he'll once again have my full support. The strength shown for her to be a him at such an age and state with a certainty that she'd known since 3 years old was phenomenal.

People may see my story a validation that children so young don't know what they want but circumstances differ for each story and the circumstances in mine means my child knows who they are but the time isn't right to fight. The child in the story OP posted had the right circumstances, fought and will hopefully enjoy the freedom I saw my child enjoy and will hopefully one day enjoy again.

I started learning when unemployed to keep myself busy, had to stop due to my laptop not being good enough but recently restarted after upgrading. Hadn't done anything like it since doing BASIC at school in the early 80s.

I just really enjoy it and, because I do, my friend who's a software dev recently got me the companion book for NAND To Tetris to work through too.

Most kids are accepting of most things. I went through a situation with my own 10 year old and the majority of their peers never batted an eyelid and were totally supportive. It's a joy to see.

So what is it like being a dad? by [deleted] in daddit

I've always said that if you're so inclined it's the best thing you'll ever do. It is the most frustrating, rewarding, exhausting, complicated, but thoroughly amazing experience.

My kids are 11 and 12, we've hit rock bottom in our relationship due to a marriage separation but are in a fantastic spot right now. Every moment with them is precious.

I have two things that I've been told to look out for; paralysis and incontinence. If I experience either, I have to get straight to the hospital and my neurosurgeon will do his thing. Living with that constant threat is interesting but drives me to keep going and seeing what I can achieve.

I'm told it's a dermoid tumour. It was initially mentioned as being a neurenteric cyst (I believe). The last time I had an MRI the tech told me he had never seen a tumour the shape of mine. I've been referred to as a functional quadrilplegic. It obviously affects me in certain ways but I'm not paralysed from the neck down (yet) so I can deal.

Will do! They will only remove it if I become paralysed or incontinent because the act of removing it is probably going to paralyse me. I also want them to cut open the tumour because it's a dermoid tumour so should have interesting stuff inside.

This is the kind of thing I'd volunteer for as a test subject just because I'd be interested to see the results. Ever since they discovered my tumour and vertebrae issues I've been curious to see views other than the regular MRI image.

My tumour was found a little after I turned 41. It had been completely unknown up until then. As long as it behaves I get to continue a pretty mundane existence except with the side-effect of getting a few wtf looks from medical professionals when I encounter them.
