Providence Catholic High Schools Marching Celtics will perform at the 2010 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida on New Years Day. We recently performed our Christmas concert and have been working hard to prepare for our field show, parade, concert and jazz band competitions for Tampa, said Rocco Carioto, PCHS Band Director. The band has had a rigorous schedule, including practicing many hours outdoors on the frozen football field and in the schools gym. The band and color guard will showcase their field competition based on the series of Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The finale features a huge pirate flag that is 40 yards long and 30 yards high. These opportunities to perform for large crowds teach students the value of hard work and sacrifice as well as pushing themselves beyond what they think they can do. If that message gets across its a very successful tour, said Carioto.

As an added bonus, Providence Catholic will have the support of Northwestern fans cheering for the Marching Celtics; PCHS is the only Illinois band performing at the Outback Bowl. In addition, two Providence Catholic alumni will start on both sides of the ball; Pat Ward for Northwestern and Jake Lembke for Auburn. We are going to try to find these alumni during the week and if we are able, make them feel at home by playing the Providence Catholic fight song. No matter what team they are on they will always be a Providence Catholic Celtic, added Carioto.
