Having featured prominently in theongoing pretrial confirmation hearings at the Hague as 2007/2008 post pollviolence hotspot young Turks leaders in Nandi county are swiftly moving tocreate an “island of new politics”,an island they say shall be free of politicalmadness.
Led by the chairman of Rift ValleyDevelopment Trust Mr. Denis Kogo and a host of community based organizations,the team is spirited to make an overhaul in the way to run politics in Nandi County.

Asked during a media breakfast heldin Kapsabet how they intend to achieve the same, they said they are rolling outmassive campaigns to sensitize the public of the immense powers bestowed to themby the new constitution.
First in their menu is theintroduction of a code of political conduct to be used during elections to vetaspiring political leaders in Nandi County. The team comprising of opinion leaders,youth, women, and elite from the region are already holding meetings in variousparts of the county to drum up support for this course.

They are facilitating public forumswhere aspiring leaders can come together with Wananchi in live public debatesto discuss among other things, development, and issues to do with governance ofpublic resources within the county.
Though they agree that this is a newphenomenon in the country only proficient in other democracies abroad, they arerearing to give it a shot irrespective of the status quo. Aspiring candidateswho have shown interest in various elective posts in the forth coming generalelections under the new constitution, and have asked not to be mentioned are jitteryof the process of interactive debates with wananchi .
They claim that this is part of ascheme to bar out other candidates. They further asserted that some non govermental organizations havebeen bankrolled by foreign individuals with ill motives to terminate innocent political careers .”Their licensesshould be revoked and their activities cross examined” added another whoasked to be anonymous d chemelil
Despite boiling fury of theantagonist and hooligans rubbishing the whole idea, the group has receivedoverwhelming support from the governmentand this they say is their immunity to success .Their campaigns will culminateto one big conference to be held towards the end of the year at Kapsabet.
During that forum all stakeholdersand wananchi will endorse and adopt the code of conduct that will have beenhatched .Meanwhile plans are underway to declare Nandi County a zone of newdispensation through radio programs and erecting billboards and banners atentry at points Chepsonoi, Mulango andchemelil warning people visiting thecounty to leave their political misdemeanor out of Nandi
