Shireen Mazari
One of the vocal Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders, Shireen Mazari. She joined the PTI in 2008 and was elected as member National Assembly in the 2013 general elections.
Mazari studied at the London School of Economics and later received her PhD from Columbia University in political science. Mazari joined Quaid-e-Azam University as an associate professor and went on to head the university’s strategic studies department. In 2002, Mazari became the head of the government-funded Institute of Strategic Studies and remained until she was removed in 2008. In 2009, Mazari became the editor of The Nation.
Ms Mazari made headlines in 2012 when she resigned from Imran Khan-led PTI citing “differences purely based on political issues”.
“Not leaving PTI for any other party, purely based on political issues,” Mazari had said in her messages. “Party program has been taken over by ‘big money’. The membership drive was hijacked by ‘big money’. This has compromised the party elections,” she cited reason while leaving the party.

When she left the party, Mazari was also incharge of Foreign Policy for the PTI.
In March 2013, she rejoined the party and it was reported she told PTI leaders that she never doubted Imran’s integrity and commitment, so it was this that had brought her back into the party fold.
“Just as I had left the PTI on September 25 with a heavy heart, so today I am rejoining the party with a clear mind and a commitment to the vision of change for a Naya Pakistan that has gained a new momentum with the intra party elections. In my resignation letter, I had raised a number of issues relating to the party, but, somehow at the juncture the country is in right now, there is a greater task to be tackled—that is rescuing our beloved Pakistan from the looters and criminals in the garb of political leader. In this context, as I had stated to Khan in my resignation letter, I had never doubted his integrity or commitment, so it is this that has brought me back into the party,” she wrote in the letter.
