Power Generation

Energy has been universally recognized as one of the most important inputs for /economic growth and human development. It has been recognized as one of the key drivers for rapid growth and poverty alleviation. The Installed power generation capacity of the State has increased from 315 MW in 1960-61 to 27357 MW in 2017-2018 (as on 31.03.18).The install capacity of GSECL is 5541 MW (as on 31.03.18) .The per capita energy consumption of power in the State of Gujarat in 2016-17 was 1916 kwh.

The Ukai Thermal Power Station is located near Ukai Dam on Tapi River in Tapi District. It is a Coal Based Power Station. The Installed Capacity of Station as on 31.03.2017 is 1350. There are two units of 120 MW each (Unit no. 1 & 2), two units of 200 MW each (Unit no. 3 & 4), one unit of 210 MW (Unit no. 5) and one unit of 500 MW (Unit no 6). All the above units are of BHEL make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 5 are 19.03.1976, 23.06.1976, 21.01.1979, 11.09.1979, 30.01.1985 and 08.06.2013 respectively.

The Unit no 1 & 2 each of 120 MW have been retired from service w e f 01.04.2017 & the station capacity has reduced to 1110 MW accordingly w e f 01.04.2017

The Ukai Hydro Power Station is located at Ukai Dam on Tapi River in Tapi District. There are four units using hydel turbine each of having installed capacity of 75 MW with a total installed capacity of station as 300 MW. All the above units are of BHEL make. The commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 4 are 08.07.1974, 13.12.1974, 22.04.1975 and 04.03.1976 respectively.

The Ukai Left Bank Canal (LBC)Hydro Power Station is located at Left Bank Cannel of Ukai Dam on Tapi River in Tapi District. There are two units using hydel turbine each of having installed capacity of 2.5 MW with a total installed capacity of 5 MW. All the above units are of BHEL make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 and 2 are 08.12.1987 and 19.02.1988 respectively.

The Gandhinagar Thermal Power Station is located at Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat near Ahmedabad. It is a Coal Based Power Station. The original installed capacity of the Station is 870 MW, comprising of units of 120 MW each (Unit no.1 & 2), three units of 210 MW each (Unit no. 3, 4 & 5) with a total installed capacity of 870 MW. The Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 5 are 13.03.1977, 10.04.1977, 20.03.1990, 20.07.1991 and 17.03.1998 respectively.

The 2 x 120 MW Unit no 1 & 2 have been retired from service w e f 03.09.2016 & the Station Capacity has reduced to 630 MW w e f 03.09.2016.

The Wanakbori Thermal Power Station is located near Wanakbori Dam located on the Mahi River in Kheda District of Gujarat. It is a Coal Based Power Station. There are seven units of 210 MW each with a total installed capacity of 1470 MW. All the above units are of BHEL make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 7 are 23.03.1982, 15.01.1983, 15.03.1984, 09.03.1986, 23.09.1986, 18.11.1987 and 31.12.1998 respectively.

The Sikka Thermal Power Station is located near Jamnagar. It is Coal Based Power Station. There are two units of 120 MW each & 2 x 250 MW Units with a total installed capacity of 740 MW (as on 31.03.2017). All the above units are of BHEL make. The commissioning dates of unit no. 1 and 2 are 26.03.1988 and 31.03.1993 and 3 & 4 are 14.09.2015 & 28.12.2015 respectively.

The Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station is located near Panandhro village in Kutch District. It is a Lignite Based Power Station. There are two units of 70 MW each (Unit no. 1 & 2) and two units of 75 MW (Unit no. 3 & 4) with a total installed capacity of 290 MW. 70 MW units are of BHEL make and 75 MW unit no. 3 is of Elecktrim Poland make & unit no. 4 is of BHEL make. The commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 4 are 29.03.1990, 25.03.1991, 31.03.1997 & 20.12.2009 respectively. The unit no. 4 is having CFBC boiler and unit is taken under commercial operation from 20.12.2009. Major R & M of unit no. 1 & 2 is completed.

In Pursuant To The Approval Of Govt Of Gujarat Dated 27.09.2018, The 2 X 250 Mw Lignite Based Power Station Of Bhavnagar Energy Compnay Limited (Becl) Units Has Been Merged With Gujarat State Electricty Corporation Limited (Gsecl) W E F 01.04.2018. The Power Station Is Titled As Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station (Bltps)

The Dhuvaran Thermal Power Station is the first Power Station of erstwhile GEB. It is located near Khambhat in Anand District. It is Oil and Gas Based Power Station. Initially in the oil based category, there were four units of 63.5 MW each (Unit no. 1 to 4) & two units of 140 MW each. (Unit no. 5 & 6) with a total installed capacity of 534 MW. All the above units were of General Electric, USA make. The commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 6 were 12.07.1965, 29.04.1965, 17.02.1965, 17.12.1964, 27.05.1972 and 10.09.1972 respectively. The Unit no. 1 to 4 had been retired from service and unit no. 5 & 6 were derated to 110 MW w. e. f. 20.04.2007 and subsequently retired from service w.e.f. 01.12.2010.

In the gas based category, there are three units of Combined Cycle Power Project using NG/RLNG as fuel for power generation.

There is one Gas Turbine of 67.850 MW of GE make supplied by BHEL and one unit of 38.767 MW STG with total installed capacity of 106.617 MW. All the above units are of GE-BHEL make. The commissioning date of CCPP I is 28.01.2004.

There is one Gas Turbine of 72.51 MW of GE make supplied by BHEL and one unit of 39.94 MW STG with total installed capacity of 112.45 MW. All the above units are of GE-BHEL make. Gas Turbine (GT) was synchronised on 17.03.06 for first time in open cycle and STG was commissioned on 13.08.07. The unit is taken under commercial operation from 01.11.2007

The third gas based combined cycle power project unit having installed capacity of 376 MW has been commissioned during May 2014. The unit is of Siemens make.

The Utran Gas Based Power Station is located on the bank of Tapi River near Surat. It is a Gas Based Power Station. There are two Projects – CCPP – 1 & CCPP – 2. In CCPP – 1 there are three gas turbine units of 30 MW each and one unit of 45 MW STG with a total installed capacity of 135 MW. In CCPP – 2 , there is one GT of 228 MW & one STG of 147 MW with a total installed capacity of 375 MW. The units of CCPP-1 are of BHEL make & the units of CCPP – 2 are of ALSTOM make. Commissioning dates of units of CCPP – 1 : GT#1, GT#2, GT#3 and STG are 17.12.1992, 28.12.1992, 07.05.1993 and 17.07.1993 respectively & CCPP – 2 : GT – 10.07.2009 & STG – 10.10.2009. The CCPP – 2 is taken under commercial operation since 08.11.2009.

The unit no 1 (135 MW) has been retired from service w e f 22.01.2017

This Power Station is located at Kadana Dam on Mahi River in Panchmahal District. There are four units of hydro turbine each of 60 MW with a total installed capacity of 240 MW. All the above units are of BHEL make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 4 are 31.03.1990, 02.09.1990, 03.01.1998 and 27.05.1998 respectively.

This Power Station is located at Panam Dam in Panchmahal District. There are two units of hydro turbine each of 1 MW with a total installed capacity of 2 MW. All above units are of UDNAS, West Germany make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 and 2 are 24.03.1994 and 31.03.1994 respectively.

The wind farm is located in the Bayath village of Kutch district. The wind farm has total installed capacity of 10 MW comprising of 8 wind mills each of 1.25 MW. The project was commissioned during May 2008.

1 MW CANAL TOP SOLAR PV PROJECT

The most innovative Canal Top Solar PV Power Project of 1 MW was implemented by the Company on Narmada branch canal near village Chandrasan in Mehsana District. The project was commissioned during March 2012. The project uses innovative idea of merging Jal Shakti with Urja Shakti by Installation of Solar PV panels on Canal. This project is very first of its kind in the world.

1 MW GANDHINAGAR ASH DYKE SOLAR PV PROJECT

Another 1 MW Solar PV Project is implemented by the Company on abandoned as dyke of Gandhinagar Thermal Power Station. At this project, Solar PV panels with different cell technology are integrated to generate 1 MW Power. The project was commissioned during March 2012.

10 MW CHARANAKA SOLAR PV PROJECT

At Gujarat Solar Park, Charanaka 10 MW Solar PV Project is implemented by the Company. The project is commissioned on 31.01.2015

SOLAR – AGRI PV PROJECT

At Sikka & KLTPS of GSECL, the Company has installed 2 x 1 MW Pilot Solar – Agri Solar PV Power Projects. The Projects are Innovative R & D Solar Projects to have agricultural crop combined with Power Generation. The Projects are commissioned on 02.05.2015.
