Description
Connected, smart devices have become pervasive. These "Things" already outnumber more traditional computing devices and are set to surpass the 100 billion devices mark within a few short years. In this session you'll learn about how technologies such as Windows Embedded, .NET Micro Framework, and Azure can be used to build cool devices and intelligent systems.

Show us the Video of Windows 8.1 Update Digital Hardware Piano.

Here's a short-form video of the piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_vGzkmw7aY. You can also watch the playback of the Day 1 Build keynote.

Thanks Steve for the presentation.
When do you think we will be able to try Windows on Galileo?
Valentin
-
What's the version of windows running on Quark/Galileo?
-
Valentin: We will make a limited number of these Galileo boards running Windows available later in the spring (see www.windowsondevices.com for more info).
Jack: This particular demo uses the Windows 8.1 core, although with a few small changes to accommodate the Quark chip (e.g., no SSE).

Very Interesting Session Steve!
It's something that I'd like to get into in the future as currently a student, are you able to tell me with the Internet of Things is going to be baked into the OS and will work with devices such as wearables, smart lights, home control, such on, and is there a standard communication protocol for such devices at the minute?

Good session Steve. Any plans putting Windows on BeagleBone Black?

Why do I see Windows Phone Silverlight 8.1 at 41min? I thought that Silverlight was dropped from WP.
-
Just a small input on the "car part". I'm working with radio, and had never hear people talk about radio sources. People don't think about FM, AM, DAB or SAT. They just what there radio station sounding the best, and get it now. Great software will tell the car radio to use right "band" to get there. And mabye try to make the good old FM look "sexy" with albums covers etc. like you get from streamning services (radiodns.org)

GREAT! Partner with some innovators like Tesla and get this out there!!
-
Will existing Galileo boards support Windows/this upcoming SDK? Trying to determine if I should return my recently ordered board...
-
Relays have both a NC (normally closed) and NO (normally open) circuits. I'd bet that the true/false issue with the traffic light is related to the wire being plugged in to the wrong one.
-
Nice one steve and hopefully ATM's go to xp to 8.1 embedded
-
thanks for the link to www.windowsondevices.com. I just signed up! Looking forward to my kit.. can't wait to get my hands on the Windows SDK and the Intel board. We are a start-up in home automation (part of BizSpark) so we have access to a free Azure account too!

@martkono:Silverlight is still on Windows Phone. We even updated it with as many of the new features as we could make available while keeping the code compatible. This way, people with existing WP8 code can run it on 8.1, and even make it better.
For universal apps, the answer is WinRT, which works both on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1.
Good Build sessions with info on both.

Aside: If you watch the Steve Guggenheimer keynote from day 2, you'll see the Akai MPC and the Numark NS7. Both run Windows Embedded Industry 8.1. Great use of the tech.

Steve --
Can you provide more information on the traffic light.
What model did you purchase/use and from where?
How do you wire up your power and relay? Did the lights come with A/C cord already or what?
Also, what relay board did you use?
Thanks!

Hey guys its
Unbelievable that the netduino is not in the dev board section ;)

I saw the mods proposed to microsofts car systems that will replicate phone info on the dash system. Could you please, please include the capability to replicate a weather app, specifically radar in motion. As a pilot, the one feature car sytems really lack is weather information. The ability to just hit a button and pull up the local radar would really enhance safty. Drivers could look ahead to their route and determine if they want to continue or if the heavy part of a storm is about to hit, they could choose to stop for a bite to eat, get a room for the night or just take a break and let the heavy stuff pass.
This would be so much more usefull than getting a stupid tweet.....
Thanks

Cheers OlafTotally agree - also why wasn't .NET Gadgeteer on there? I ended up answering arduino even though I've never used it, as it was the closest thing on there to netduino and Gadgeteer. Perhaps an 'additional comments' field would have been good.

How about FEZ-Spider

When Can we know more about .net microframework future & update?
Right now it looks like a dead forsaken project.
-
@cedricmi: Actually the .NET Microframework is very alive and well. You can find out more about it here, http://www.netmf.com/ and https://netmf.codeplex.com/ and there's ongoing third party support, such as Releasing the NETMF and Gadgeteer Package 2014 R2 Beta-2 SDK!
