The focus on two young female characters isn't the most radical thing here, its that nearly every character ends up transcending the false perceptions held by their peers and the audience.

Booksmart is stylishly directed and genuine to the core. This coming-of-age/high-school film is hysterical, charming and surprisingly sincere overall thanks to its outstanding leads in Dever and Feldstein, its colorful supporting cast and unique vision from first-time-director, Olivia Wilde; making for one of the best this year and this decade. 4.55/5

What utter rubbish. Worst movie of this year, this decade, this millennium. In fact worst movie ever. If this is anything like what high school is these days then I truly weep for the future. 97% on the t-meter...I don't think so. Olivia Wide should never direct another movie ever (7-27-19)

I like the leads but I love the supporting cast. Booksmart had me dubious. In the past couple of years beforehand, I'd heard great (and virtually identical) things about three female-led coming of age films: Edge of Seventeen, Lady Bird, and Eighth Grade. In my opinion, one of these movies is great, one of these movies is good, and one of these movies is... not. So when I started hearing the exact same chatter around Booksmart, I was not certain what I should expect. Now, having seen it, it might actually be the best of the bunch. Certainly the funniest. Might well end up being my only non-Action movie of the year I go in for a rewatch on.
