Profile

Silvia Milano is a Postdoctoral Researcher in AI ethics at the OII, where she works in the GET project. Her recent research focuses on the epistemological and ethical aspects of recommender systems and applications of AI to personalisation and decision support.

Silvia graduated in Philosophy at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (Italy) and earned a PhD in Philosophy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, with a thesis on the epistemology of self-locating beliefs.

Current projects

  • A Right to Reasonable Inferences in Advertising and Financial Services

    Participants: Professor Sandra Wachter, Dr Brent Mittelstadt, Dr Silvia Milano, Dr Johann Laux, Dr Chris Russell

    This project uses legal and ethical analysis to establish the requirements for applying a ‘right to reasonable inferences’ in Europe to protect against privacy-invasive and discriminatory automated decision-making in advertising and financial services.
