Attacker signs on until 2024 after arriving from Sparta Rotterdam

Turkey under-21 international Halil Dervişoğlu has completed his move to Brentford from Sparta Rotterdam, subject to international clearance. It was announced in August that an agreement had been reached for the 20-year-old attacker to join The Bees at the start of the January Transfer Window. That agreement came into force on Wednesday, 1 January, and Halil has now signed all the required paperwork to become a Brentford player.

The Club have applied for international clearance and Halil will be able to play for The Bees once that has been received. The attacker signed a four-and-a-half-year contract earlier this week and has been training with Brentford ahead of the Emirates FA Cup tie against Stoke City tomorrow. He is under contract in West London until the summer of 2024.

Halil worked his way through the youth ranks at Sparta, playing predominantly as a centre forward and progressing to the first team. He played for Jong Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch third tier and scored 21 goals in 28 games in the 2017/18 season. He progressed to the first team last term and scored ten times in 34 games in the second tier, plus one more as he helped Sparta win promotion via the Play-Offs.

Halil adapted quickly to Eredivisie football this term, netting four goals and contributing three assists, in Sparta’s opening nine games of the campaign and leaves with five goals and three assists in 17 league outings. He has also been a regular for Turkey’s Under-21s, playing five of their six 2021 European Championship qualifiers, scoring twice.
