Type-species: Hesperia massasoit Scudder, 1863, Proc. Essex Inst. 3: 171, no. 65, by original designation. Burns (1992), J. Lepid. Soc. 46(1): 1-23, discussed the probability that this genus is polyphyletic, and created species groups. The first group includes hobomok, zabulon and taxiles, while the second group includes massasoit, viator, aaroni and yehl (massasoit may belong in its own group).
