SINGLES
Mariah Carey last week ended Tones And I’s record breaking run atop the ARIA top 100 singles chart by bounding into the No.1 spot with her Christmas classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
Seven days on, however, and Mariah’s gone entirely from the top ten, leaving Tones And I to resume her position on top; now for a huge 22nd (broken) week at No.1.
With all the other Christmas classics evacuating the top ten, Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’ is up from No.5 to No.2 and Arizona Zervas’s ‘Roxanne’ bullets from No.6 to No.3.
Maroon 5’s ‘Memories’, Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ and Regard’s ‘Ride It’ are also up three apiece, while The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ makes the most of the Christmas exodus, bounding from No.12 to a new peak of No.7.
Lizzo’s ‘Good As Hell’ and Harry Styles’ ‘Adore You’ also reclaim their places in the top ten (No.15 to No.9 and No.14 to No.10).
Also on the up this week are Meduza’s ‘Lose Control’ (No.22 to No.11 – a new peak), Billie Eilish’s former No.1 hit ‘Bad Guy’ (No.23 to No.12) and Trevor Daniel’s ‘Falling’ (No.20 to a new peak of No.13).
Travis Scott’s ‘Highest In The Room’ is back in a big way, bulleting 45 places to No.15.
Bulleting also (but not quite so grandly) are Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ (No.27 to No.16), Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’ (No.28 to No.17) and ‘Before You Go’ (No.34 to No.18), Ed Sheeran’s ‘South Of The Border’ (No.30 to No.19), Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s ‘Señorita’ (No.33 to No.20) and Dan + Shay’s ‘10,000 Hours’ (with Justin Bieber – No.32 to No.21).
It’s only up two places this week (to No.23), but the Harry Styles track ‘Watermelon Sugar’ has done enough in its seven week chart run to achieve a gold sales accreditation, meaning it’s sold in excess of 35,000 units.
Flume and Vera Blue’s collaboration also comes ‘Rushing Back’ (No.37 to No.24), Camila Cabello’s ‘My Oh My’ bullets from No.38 to a new peak of No.25, while big moves follow for Blackbear (‘Hot Girl Bummer’ up from No.39 to No.26), Post Malone & Swae Lee (‘Sunflower’ up from No.42 to No.27), Selena Gomez (‘Lose You To Love Me’ up from No.40 to No.28), Freya Ridings (‘Castles’ up from No.44 to No.29) and Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s former No.1 hit ‘I Don’t Care’ (up from No.51 to No.30).
And still they come; Ed’s ‘Beautiful People’ up from No.47 to No.31, MeduZa’s ‘Piece Of Your Heart’ up from No.57 to No.32 and Sam Feldt’s ‘Post Malone’ up from No.61 to No.33.
In between all these bulleting singles, however, is a new entry from Benee. ‘Glitter’ leaves its shimmer in the No.34 spot on debut.
More big moves? Crack on! Shaed’s ‘Trampoline’ (No.66 to No.35), The Weeknd’s ‘Heartless’ (No.59 to No.36), Halsey’s ‘Graveyard’ (No.64 to No.37), Riton and Oliver Heldens’ ‘Turn Me On’ (No.74 to No.38), Benny Blanco’s ‘Eastside’ (No.70 to No.39), Joel Corry’s ‘Sorry’ (No.90, up a massive fifty places to a new peak of No.40).
Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ is up 32 to No.41, Blanco Brown’s ‘The Git Up’ is up 23 to No.42, Don Toliver’s ‘No Idea’ soars 32 places to No.43, Guy Sebastian’s ‘Choir’ jumps 26 to No.45 and Stormzy’s ‘Own It’ thunders back into the top 50 (No.72 to No.46).
Re-entries into the top 50 also from Sam Smith, Ant Saunders and 5 Seconds Of Summer, along with a huge 48 place jump for the new Sofi Tukker single ‘Purple Hat’ (No.98 to No.50).
Plenty more big moves outside the top 50 also (Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Khalid, George Ezra – ‘Shotgun’ also achieving a massive new ninth platinum accreditation for sales in excess of 630,000 units – Taylor Swift etc). But there’s also a re-entry in the top 100 for The Chainsmokers and Amy Shark’s single ‘The Reaper’ (at a new peak of No.56).
5 Seconds Of Summer’s former No.1 hit ‘Youngblood’ is up from No.95 to No.57 and Noah Cyrus’s ‘July’ soars from No.100 to No.58.
Post Malone’s ‘Wow’, Jonas Brothers’ ‘Sucker’ and Marshmello and Bastille’s ‘Happier’ are all back in the top 100, re-emerging in positions 59, 60 and 61 respectively.
Lil Tecca jumps from No.94 to No.62 with ‘Ransom’, while Sheck Wes and Jackboys claim the No.63 spot on debut with their track ‘Gang Gang’.
Top 100 re-entries follow for Dominic Fike, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Kygo & Whitney Houston, Jonas Brothers, Loud Luxury, Dean Lewis, DaBaby, Travis Scott & Drake and Drax Project (x2!).
Jackboys are back with their single ‘Out West’ in the No.79 position on debut. And they’re also in the No.86 spot on debut with ‘What To Do?’.
The Rubens scrape into the mix with a No.96 debut for their ‘Live In Life’.
So what about all those Christmas singles? All gone. Every single one. Including last week’s No.4 from Michael Bublé, last week’s No.3 from Wham! and last week’s No.1 from Mariah Carey! All gone entirely from the ARIA top 100!
Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, however, does leave the top 100 armed with a new fourth platinum accreditation for sales in excess of 280,000 units.
Hall And Oates’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ is now gold certified (as are Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Christmas’ and Destiny’s Child’s ‘8 Days Of Christmas’).
ALBUMS
And just like over on the singles side of the chart, the albums chart sees falls for all Christmas themed sets.
Harry Styles regains the No.1 mantle with his album ‘Fine Line’ (after giving way to Michael Bublé last week).
The first top five for 2020 also features Billie Eilish, the ‘Frozen 2’ soundtrack, Ed Sheeran and a No.5 debut for the Jackboys and Travis Scott album ‘Jackboys’.
Post Malone’s back into the top ten with ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ (No.18 to No.6), as is Taylor Swift with ‘Lover’ (No.13 to No.8).
The Cold Chisel best-of is up (No.21 to No.13) and is just two spots behind the band’s new album ‘Blood Moon’ (No.5 to No.11).
Also jumping this week are albums from Camila Cabello, Stormzy, Lewis Capaldi, Post Malone, Luke Combs and Billie Eilish.
The soundtrack to ‘Star Wars : The Rise Of Skywalker’ premieres in the No.25 position.
Dean Lewis’s ‘A Place We Knew’ is up (No.42 to No.27), but The Chainsmokers’ ‘World War Joy’ is up much further (No.61 to a new peak of No.28).
Khalid’s ‘Free Spirit’ is back into the top 50 (No.55 to No.30), as are Dua Lipa’s self-titled album (No.63 to No.34) and Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’ (No.60 to No.35)
‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack rises from No.50 to No.36. But Robbie Williams’ Christmas album has taken a tumble. It’s down from No.3 to No.38 in its sixth week.
Drake is back in the upper half of the hundred with ‘Scorpion’ (No.76 to No.39).
But the ‘Last Christmas’ soundtrack slides 18 to No.40.
Also reclaiming top 50 berths this week are albums from Shawn Mendes, Travis Scott, the original ‘Frozen’ soundtrack, Tyler The Creator, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, XXXTentacion and Lana Del Rey.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Ghosteen’ loses 22 places to No.55, but Post Malone’s ‘Stoney’ gains 30 to No.57.
Queen’s best-of also slides (down 32 to No.66), but Michael Bublé’s ‘Christmas’ slides a lot further; from No.1 last week to No.78 just seven days later.
Leonard Cohen’s ‘Thanks For The Dance’ is down 47 to No.96 and Queen’s ‘The Platinum Collection’ drops 40 to No.98.
Re-entering the top 100 this week is Adele’s ’21’, which has been updated to a mammoth 17 times platinum. It’s sold in excess of 1.19 million copies in Australia. Massive.
Christmas albums from Mariah Carey and Human Nature, which were both within the top 20 last week, have gone from the top 100.
