Hanks Aucamp Elected to St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 25, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis alum and former tennis star Carol Hanks Aucamp is one of 11 individuals that will be inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019.

The St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame's Annual Enshrinement Dinner will be held Monday, Nov. 11, at the Liuna Event Center in St. Louis. Reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and program at 7 p.m.

Hanks Aucamp, a 1965 WashU graduate, earned a pair of letters as the first woman to compete on the varsity men's tennis team. She compiled an overall record of 36-8 – 19-5 in singles and 17-3 in doubles –  while playing No. 2 and No. 3 singles, and No. 1 doubles. 

A member of the WashU Sports Hall of Fame and the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame, Hanks Aucamp competed in Wimbledon four times (1961, '63, '64, '67) and reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open in 1964. She also advanced to the finals of the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship in 1966.

Hanks Aucamp won the U.S. Indoor Singles title in 1963, and was a four-time U.S. Indoor Doubles champion. She earned a world ranking of No. 5 in 1964.

As a member of the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame's 12th class, Hanks Aucamp will be honored along with the following: Skip Berkmeyer, Bernard Gilkey, Ryan Howard, Ryan Robertson, Ted Sizemore, Mike Villa, Greg Vitello, Larry Walls, Harry Weber and Ron Zetcher.
