Armaan R May 14, 2019 This was a rough start, but Christopher Ecclestons underrated performance and his excellently crafted chemistry with Rose is what got me hooked with this series and I am glad i did because this has suddenly become my favorite TV show. This does a good job of building the world for newcomers to the show such as myself, but it also acknowledges the past series and the events that took place then. I really like the daleks and the emotion that is shown by Eccleston as the doctor when they meet and it is really well acted. I really loved Jack Harkness and thought that John Barrowman was a great comic relief character that was perfect and was just what the somewhat dark and dreadful tone of this season had, he was just the best . The romance with Rose and Mickey is completely disposable, as it does not add to the show in any way, it actually hinders it a little bit. Also, Jackie Tyler did come out as very annoying and not funny at all as a sort of comic relief character so im glad when Jack came and filled that role perfectly. All around, its a pretty OK season with great characters and a good past and some pretty good acting, and some great character development for everybody. Levi N Apr 15, 2019 Fabulous series. Eccleston isn't a bad actor or anything, but when you have the whole history of Doctor Who behind you, it is really hard to reboot in a sort of hamfisted sort of way as this. I grew up and loved Tom Baker's Doctor. And I have to admit, if I had to go back and watch him now, it would come off as cheesy. This reboot is maybe not QUITE as cheesy as 70s Dr Who, but it isn't far behind. Even the computer effects are bad. The first couple of episodes were cheesy, but the character and story arc started to develop half way in to the series. It is too bad Eccelston quit - his initial goofy character was just starting to get going. cork b Mar 04, 2019 Outstanding on every level, the feel takes off straight away. Enjoyed every moment of it. Eccleston is amazing as The Doctor, and the dark tone of the series is what separates it from everything that came after this season. Want to start watching Doctor Who? Josh P Jan 12, 2019 Growing up on the original series (mostly reruns with Tom Baker as the Doctor) as a child, it was really exciting to see Doctor Who get the budget to give Doctor Who the modern high-quality TV special effects it deserves. Seeing what a Dalek debut in this series with all the new fancy special effects that show what a military threat it really is (rather than a vacuum cleaner on rollers like in the original series) was a treat. The show introduced Rose as a strong female character and pansexual character (Captain Jack Harkness) without rubbing it in your face or being preachy about it (unlike the mess that it season 11). The first time I watched Season 1, I was not sure if I liked Eccleston as The Doctor, he reminded me of a bit of a clown-like Tom Baker version of The Doctor but he looked really cool in his leather jacket so the two clashing ideas made me feel some dissonance. However, I have watched Season 1 at least once more since then and he grew on my the second time I saw season 1. The stories were great and the show was true to the original series roots by including classic Doctor Who monsters and classic Doctor Who alien races into the show. This was a great start to a modern spin on a great old classic show I loved as a child.
