Elsewhere, Ulsan Hyundai opened up a three-point lead at the top of the K League, while Shanghai SIPG moved to within a point of Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League following another weekend of exciting action across East Asia.

Mongolia: Ulaanbaatar City seal title

The Mongolian Premier League went down to the wire at the weekend as both Ulaanbaatar City and Erchim FC went into their final fixtures on Sunday locked on 45 points apiece, with the former ahead by virtue of a better head-to-head record.

Having won the title for the past four successive years and six times in seven seasons, Erchim needed to better the result of their capital city rivals, and a 3-0 win against Deren ensured they did their part.

Ulaanbaatar City, who defeated Erchim 2-1 nine days earlier and then ran out convincing 6-1 winners over Athletic 220 on Thursday, would not be denied their first league title though and their 3-0 victory over Khangarid saw them crowned champions for the very first time.

At the other end of the table, Khaan Khuns Titem and Khoromkhon had their relegations confirmed some time ago after disappointing campaigns.

Korea Republic: Ulsan take advantage of Jeonbuk slip-up

A late goal from veteran striker Lee Dong-gook rescued a point for defending K League champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in a 1-1 draw with third-placed FC Seoul on Saturday but could not prevent the Jeonju side falling three points behind Ulsan.

Also on Saturday, an early brace from Brazilian Junior Negrao helped Ulsan claim a 2-1 victory at home to Gangwon as they extended their lead to three points in their bid to win a first league title since 2005.

With the league having now been split into two, Jeju United appear to have a mountain to climb at the other end of the table as the bottom side’s 2-2 draw against second-from-last Gyoengnam FC means they remain five points adrift at the foot.

The only other team in danger of the drop is Incheon United, whose 1-1 draw against Suwon Samsung Bluewings leaves them just a point above Gyeongnam with three matches to play.

China: Title race heats up as Shanghai close in on Guangzhou

After exiting the 2019 AFC Champions League at the hands of Urawa Red Diamonds, Guangzhou Evergrande played out a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Henan Jianye on Sunday, but came from two goals down to salvage a point after Paulinho and Wei Shihao netted in the second half.

Second-placed Shanghai SIPG had few problems overcoming Dalian Yifang, with their 3-0 victory on Sunday seeing the defending champions move to within a point of the league leaders.

An in what is turning out to be an intriguing three-horse race, third-placed Beijing FC are now just two points from the summit following a 3-1 win over Tianjin Teda on Saturday.

Bottom side Beijing Rehhe drew 2-2 with third-from-bottom Tianjin Tianhai and, nine points from safety, their situation looks bleak, while second-last Shenzhen FC came from 4-1 down to claim a thrilling 4-4 draw against Wuhan Zall after scoring three times in five second-half minutes.

Guam: Trio maintain perfect starts

Bog Strykers continued their excellent start to the season in Guam as a 10-0 victory over Quality Distributors meant they have now scored 18 and conceded none in their opening two games.

Defending champions Napa Rovers have six points from six after a 9-0 win over Guam Shipyard, while third-placed Islanders saw off Sidekicks 3-2 and have also won two from two.
