Prince Harry will take his time securing best financial deal for his family

The Duke of Sussex (centre, with wife Meghan Markle in London on Tuesday) is set for showdown talks with his father Prince Charles (top right) and grandmother the Queen (left, driving in Sandringham today) after he and Meghan Markle dropped the bombshell that they would be stepping back from their high-profile public roles in the Royal Family. Harry is in no rush to strike a deal, as he is determined to secure the best possible financial terms for his family as they 'move towards being financially independent'. But the Queen has ordered their new stripped-back roles to be determined within the next 72 hours. It comes as Palace aides denied Meghan and Harry (bottom right, their house Frogmore Cottage in Windsor) were being 'driven out' of the royal family, saying the couple would be 'at the centre' of a potentially stream-lined monarchy. With Charles currently at Birkhall, his Scottish residence, and the Queen at Sandringham, it is not clear where the crunch talks will take place.

Royal commentators say Duchess has fallen out of love with UK

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's shocking step down from their royal duties, now known as 'Megxit', has sparked furious debate among royal commentators in the British press. Here, Jeremy Clarkson (left) wonders whether either of them thought Megxit through while Judith Woods (second left) laments that it's time to 'face the fact' that 'Meghan has broken up with Britain' in the Telegraph. Carole Malone (second right) accuses the couple of being 'selfish and disrespectful' in the Daily Express while Giles Coren (right) says, 'Who wouldn't want to withdraw from public life now?' in the Times.

Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince in 2018, made the claim following the ongoing fallout caused by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to step back from the royal family.

Anita Atkinson, who runs a royal museum in Crook, County Durham, owns more than 7,000 items of memorabilia which she collected over 40 years. She has recently criticised Harry and Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex recorded the voiceover before the royal couple left for their six-week break to Canada to celebrate Christmas. Signing was in return for a donation to an elephant charity.

'Death to liars!' Iranian protesters in Tehran turn against regime and demand the Ayatollah RESIGN after country's military admits it shot down passenger plane full of its own citizens

Angry crowds gathered on Saturday night chanting 'death to liars' and calling for the country's supreme leader to step down over the tragic military blunder, video from the scene shows. What began as mournful vigils for Iranian lives lost on the flight quickly turned to outrage and protest against the regime, and riot police quickly responded with tear gas in an attempt to break up the protests. Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 was carrying 176 people, at least 130 of them Iranian citizens, when it was shot down by hapless Iranian Revolutionary Guard air defense forces shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8.

The photos, which depict the grisly outcome of the January 3 Reaper drone's missile strike on two cars carrying Soleimani and nine others, were obtained by Fox News from a U.S. government source. The U.S. soldiers were secretly following Soleimani's convoy about a half-mile behind his entourage, and rushed to the scene immediately after the strike to confirm that the Iranian general had been killed. The photos show the burning, twisted wreckage of the vehicle Solemani was traveling in, as well as some of the items he was carrying, including a cell phone and currency.

Friends of Meghan Markle open up to DAVID JONES about Megxit

'Never give it five minutes if you're not prepared to give it five years,' is a homespun motto Meghan Markle (inset, with Prince Harry on Tuesday) used to declare, writes DAVID JONES. That it has taken Meghan considerably less time - just 20 months - to decide she cannot adjust to the rigours of royal duty may have shocked the British public. This week, however, I have canvassed many of my sources for the biography of the Duchess that I wrote for the Mail, including her oldest friends, maternal grandmother and relatives of the now happily remarried Mr Engelson (bottom right, in 2006). None of these people - who know how Meghan conducts herself and the strategies she employs - is surprised that this free-spirited and untameably headstrong woman has so prematurely jumped the royal ship, and 'cut and run' (as one friend put it) for a new life in Canada. Majority of Britons say Harry and Meghan treated Queen 'shoddily'

The Queen (left, on Friday) has been treated 'shoddily' by Harry and Meghan (pictured, top-left in October) and should not ask them to stay in the UK, the public believes, according to a Daily Mail poll (right). The poll also suggests there will be deep anger if the couple keep their titles and privileges while effectively quitting as royals and moving to North America. Meghan is blamed for the couple's bombshell move, with just 4 per cent saying it was Harry. The poll reveals that both the duke and duchess have paid a heavy price in popularity since making the announcement on Wednesday night. Meghan's public rating is now a net minus 2 per cent, down 22 points in three months. She is in a lowly tenth place among the royals, below Sophie Wessex. Harry, who not long ago was the nation's most loved prince, has seen his rating slump by 20 points to fifth.

The 60-year-old called her 'awful, woke, weak, manipulative spoilt and irritating' and said he didn't think he would like her in real life, despite admitting he has never met her in person.

Crossrail maps reveal old plans for an east-west railway

Delays to the opening of Crossrail have been frustrating London rail commuters for nearly 18 months now, as they await its launch to bring them significantly faster train journeys across the capital. But these hold-ups should be nothing new to Londoners, because an east-west rail project was first touted in the 1840s which would have linked Paddington with the capital's East End docks and helped relieve congestion (left). Further proposals followed including one in 1943 at the time of the Abercrombie Plan which resulted in ideas such as the green belt and new towns (top right); the 1974 London Rail Study which featured a northern tunnel which would join British Rail's western region lines west of Paddington to the eastern region lines east of Bethnal Green; and a plan in 1980 for a £330million Inter City north-south link for London which could meet a Channel Tunnel line at Victoria (bottom right).
