TKC THURSDAY NIGHT QUESTION: ARE PREZ TRUMP & THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS BAD WINNERS?!?!?

We live in an era when sportsmanship and civility are no longer prized in a culture that that values victory above all else.

Winning will never be overrated and in the end it might be the only thing that really matters BUT for just a moment we entertain a question of honor in football and politics -- Admittedly, both of these endeavors gave up on their principles on the afternoon of November 22, 1963.

Nevertheless, we ask our blog community . . .

GIVEN THEIR ALLEGEDLY NAUGHTY BEHAVIOR AFTER EPIC WINS: ARE THE CHIEFS & PREZ TRUMP BAD WINNERS???

Admittedly, having a few street beers and running off at the mouth isn't as bad as slamming elected officials and law enforcement but neither actions are really admirable and/or something to admire . . . ???

KCUR: Jackson County Property Owners Can Expect More Reassessment Problems, Including Another Tax Hike

KSHB: Troy Schulte: Jackson County assessments could skyrocket again in 2021

Money line:

New County Administrator Troy Schulte laid out a litany of problems suggesting that it might not be fully cleaned up for years.

Taxpayers will need to brace themselves for another rocky reassessment in 2021 and perhaps beyond, Schulte said, explainig that county data points toward big assessment hikes in eight county neighborhoods:

- 95th and State Line
- Ward Parkway
- Brookside
- 49-63 Neighborhood
- South KC
- Martin City
- Lake Tapawingo
- Waldo

Schulte told legislators on Monday that property owners in those eight areas can expect "significantly higher assessed valuations in 2021." He said that means hikes of 10% to 15% in assessed value. Schulte suggested taxpayers might want to start planning now for those big hikes by doing their own assessments.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS BOOZING IN PUBLIC DURING SUPER BOWL PARADE VIOLATED LAW & EARNED REBUKE FROM PARENTS!!!

During the long-ago era of prohibition Kansas City earned international notoriety for its corrupt defiance of prudish American law that was eventually repealed. During the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade, superstar athletes also defied more reasonable restrictions on drinking in public.

Let's not forget that before the parade Kansas City's top cop warned the public about drinking outside of designated areas like bars, restaurants and residences.

KCPD Chief: "As always, public alcohol consumption also is prohibited."

However . . .

Sports media confirmation . . .

Patrick Mahomes Pouring a Beer Into Travis Kelce’s Mouth is the Highlight of Chiefs Parade

And thankfully, at least one local station documents beer chugging that breaks the law:

KMBC: Eric Fisher relives viral Stone Cold beer celebration during Super Bowl parade

Chiefs fans are trying to spin criticism and claim the booze is fake . . . Witnesses at the scene, social media clips and the smells from the crowd confirm THOSE BEERS WERE THE REAL THING.

More to the point the rambling from the Chiefs during their speeches was nothing more than nearly incoherent impromptu chatter and yelling that usually emanates from the the cheap seats among functional alcoholics who utilize local games as nothing more than an excuse to drink.

Here's word sent our way from one fan and a growing sentiment starting to trend . . .

"I understand this victory was historic and these guys are entitled to a good time but what kind of message does it send to have them chugging beers for three hours on our downtown streets?

Slurring through thanks to Veterans isn't really a proper tribute. It was impossible to listen to them because most players were drunk on stage. There were tens of thousands of young people watching and what they witnessed didn't have any more dignity than a late night college kegger.

Again, I know the Chiefs are young athletes who can do whatever they please during their own time but this was a parade and rally funded by taxpayer dollars, and attended by elected officials. It didn't have to be a beer fest but that's how it turned out. More than anything, this was NOT a family friendly event."

Police escorted the Chiefs boozing so it's unlikely any fines or admonishment will result.

We understand concerns from parents but that's just one of many complaints starting to emerge . . .

As voters discuss the uncomfortable topic of corruption amid a debate over local control of police, this historic episode clearly demonstrates millionaire celebrity athletes acting above the law in full view of hundreds of thousands on Kansas City streets.

KANSAS CITY ACTIVISTS HIGHLIGHT CLIMATE STRIKE BANNER DROP DURING CHIEFS SUPER BOWL PARADE!!!

Take a look:

Young people disrupt Kansas City’s national Superbowl parade to hype largest Earth Day Strike in history

Kansas City, MO -- Around 1 million people, or roughly half the population of the Kansas City Metro area, were greeted with a giant banner reminding them to “Strike for a Livable Future” this coming Earth Day. The crowd gathered for a victory parade and rally for the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Superbowl for the first time in 50 years last Sunday. Young people with Sunrise Movement Kansas City dropped the banner at a parking garage on Grand Avenue along the parade route, drawing the crowd’s attention to mobilizing for action on the climate crisis. The young people also canvassed and passed out flyers, reminding attendees they’ll need a crowd of a similar size on Earth Day if they want to win action on the climate crisis from their representatives.

“The Kansas City Chiefs have won our city a great victory for the first time in 50 years and this gigantic crowd has plenty to celebrate,” said Lily Cosgrove, a 22 year-old music major at The University of Missouri-Kansas City. “ Today, we’ve proven we can take to the streets. Let’s turn out again on April 22nd to win a Green New Deal. Let’s not just win the Superbowl, let’s win a livable future. We’ll see you on Earth Day, Kansas City.”

April 22nd, 2020 marks the 50th Earth Day since it was first observed in 1970 and kicked off a wave of environmental legislation. Young people around the world are ensuring this year’s celebration will be the largest climate strike in history. Like previous strikes in September and December, young people will walk out of their classrooms and workplaces to demand world leaders stand up to fossil fuel billionaires and take action on the greatest crisis of our time.

Kansas City’s Earth Day climate strike is being planned by Sunrise Movement KC in coalition with a number of other groups. More details will be announced soon.

TKC READER: KANSAS CITY POLITICOS UNFAIRLY MONOPOLIZED SPOTLIGHT AT CHIEFS SUPER BOWL PARADE!!!

An important comment, insight and perspective that contradicts so much complaint MSM coverage . . .

How not to do a parade

In 1970 the players and coaches were in individual vehicles…easily identifiable.

Today it was good luck figuring out who is whom.

Oh, the Jackson County Legislature had a big banner. The Kansas City Council had a big banner.

The Jackson County Sports Authority had a big banner. The Chiefs staff had a big banner.

No ID for the players. They were grouped by position on buses…but no labels there either.

Some of the secondary players even got off their bus, which was totally cool, and worked the crowd. But, most of us only see helmets and numbers…

Next time…individual vehicles, wearing their jerseys, and their own banner on the side.

The people identified had the least to do with the victory.

Cringey Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade Speeches Disappoint History

The reality is that nobody said much of anything worth remembering at this so-called "historic" event . . . To be fair, it was nice that Travis Kelce took a bit of time to shake hands with the military before his tirade that was slightly less eloquent than drunk talk heard at every sports bar in the nation on Sunday.

Here's a more upbeat recap that confirms our thesis:

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce honor Andy Reid with emphatic speeches at Super Bowl parade

The Kansas City Chiefs' first Super Bowl championship parade in 50 seasons concluded at Union Station with several speeches to a crowd that was estimated to have nearly 1 million people in attendance. After talks from Missouri governor Mike Parsons, mayor Quinton Lucas, team owner Clark Hunt and president Mark Donovan, general manager Brett Veach was kind enough to say what we all were thinking.
