President M. Duane Nellis has appointed Dr. David Descutner as Interim Executive Vice President and Provost of Ohio University, effective July 1. Descutner most recently served as interim president of Ohio University following the departure of President Roderick J. McDavis in March 2017. A national search will begin in the next couple of months to fill the regular position of Executive Vice President and Provost.
Pam Benoit, Executive Vice President and Provost, has accepted a new position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She will serve as UAB’s new Senior Vice President and Provost. Her appointment begins on July 1, 2017.
Surrounded by loved ones from home and members of their Bobcat family, approximately 3,000 members of the Ohio University Class of 2017 participated in the morning and afternoon Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies held Saturday, April 29, at the Convocation Center on the Athens Campus. The event marked the culmination of their transformative OHIO experience.
The Provost’s Undergraduate Research Fund has provided 41 Ohio University students with a total of $49,962 in funding for their original research, scholarship and creative work this fall. The program received 83 proposals with a total funding request of $98,732. Students may request up to $1,500 per proposal. The Provost’s Undergraduate Research Fund is funded by the Executive Vice President and Provost and administered by the Research Division.
Ohio University has been named a finalist for the University Economic Development Association (UEDA) 2016 Award of Excellence for its Innovation Strategy investment program, a collaborative, interdisciplinary effort that encompasses teaching, learning, research and institutional operations and addresses how the University can use its existing assets and expertise to engage substantively with the challenges of the 21st century.
