Mirga meets our Royal Patron

We were delighted to welcome our Patron, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, to Wednesday’s concert at Symphony Hall.

His Royal Highness joined an eager and appreciative Symphony Hall audience to take in performances of Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka, Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3 and Michael Tippett’s Piano Concerto – the concluding part of pianist Steven Osborne’s 2016-17 residency with the Orchestra.  The concert was broadcast live on Radio 3 and is available to listen again here until 14 July.

His Royal Highness enjoyed a pre-concert dinner with major supporters of the CBSO and other guests, and over interval drinks he met donors who had supported educational and other special projects this year.  After the concert he met Mirga, Steven Osborne and musicians Michael Jenkinson, Graham Sibley and Tomo Keller.  His Royal Highness welcomed Mirga to Birmingham and congratulated her on the evening's concert.

His last CBSO visit was in 2016, when he received a sneak preview of Mirga's first season with us.
