TWO police chiefs, including Sta. Ana Police Chief Caesar Cabuhat, were sacked for failing to stop Last Two, an illegal numbers game, in their areas.

The other police officer is Senior Inspector Sante Mendoza, the chief of Mawab Municipal Police Office in Compostela Valley.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Ronald dela Rosa expressed surprise over the sacking of Cabuhat, but admitted that illegal gambling remains uncontrolled in the Sta. Ana Police’s area of responsibility.

Senior Superintendent Dela Rosa said it was Camp Crame through Philippine National (PNP) Chief Allan Purisima who ordered the relief of the officers.

"Naigo gyud siya (Cabuhat) sa One Strike Policy. Strike 2 na gyud siya (It’s the PNP Chief’s one-strike policy against illegal gambling, that’s what did Cauhat in. It’s his second strike)," dela Rosa said in a telephone interview.

Dela Rosa said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) held the crackdown on illegal gambling activities in the area.

Cabuhat is now on a floating status while Toril precinct chief Angel Sumagaysay takes over. Deputy commander of Talomo Police Inspector Maximiano Atuel takes over the Toril precinct.

Cabuhat also faces administrative charges for neglect of duty, dela Rosa said.

Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office director Camilo Cascolan said, "This will serve as a warning sa lahat ng chief of police. My strong message to them, we will not allow illegal gambling in our area of responsibility (AOR)."

Because of what happened, dela Rosa ordered the station commanders to intensify their campaign against robberies and illegal gambling in the city.

"Ako silang giignan nga tutukan ang issue sa pagpangawat ug illegal gambling kay medyo nigara ang mga kawatan ug mga sugarol (I told them to focus on the issue of robbery and illegal gambling since these robbers and gamblers are getting arrogant)," dela Rosa said in interview with Sun.Star Davao.
