The Journey to The Force Awakens panel at New York Comic-Con was big for fans of the Star Wars saga, triggering a new wave of excitement and anticipation with the announcement of several new Star Wars books that will be released from November of this year to summer of 2017. These books will chronicle the events of the galaxy leading up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and provide backstories to some of the new characters in the film.
Adding to the buzz was Marvel’s Cup O’ Joe panel, which revealed a new story line set during the 10-year period between Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

Journey to The Force Awakens panel
Title: Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy far, far away: Aliens
Scheduled for release in December, author Landry Walker announces the eBook anthology, Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy far, far away: Aliens, featuring four background aliens from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The individual stories/aliens are “High Noon on Jakku,” “All Creatures Great and Small,” “The Face of Evil,” and “The Crimson Corsair and the Treasure of Count Dooku.” In addition to being part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens” program, these four stories will be collected into a print version — along with two more stories to be named later — on sale in April, 2017. The stories will feature art by ILM artist Tyler Scarlett.
Title: Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon
Veteran Star Wars author, Michael Siglain, discusses Delilah Dawson’s Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon, which focuses on the character of Bazine from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The eShort story is due to arrive this November.
Title: Star Wars: Bait
Michael Siglain announces another short story, Star Wars: Bait, which focuses on the character of Grumgarr from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Written by Alan Dean Foster, this title is due for release this December.
Title: Star Wars: New Republic: Bloodline
Claudia Gray announces her new book, Star Wars: New Republic: Bloodline, which is set roughly six years before the film and is due for release in Spring, 2016.
Title: Star Wars: Aftermath: Life Debt (book II) and Star Wars: Aftermath: Empire’s End (book III)
Chuck Wendig announces two of the new books in his Aftermath trilogy scheduled for release in Summer 2016 and Summer 2017.
Marvel’s Cup O’ Joe panel
Title: Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin
Joe Quesada announces the next Star Wars limited series from Marvel, following Gerry Duggan & Phil Noto’s Chewbacca. Written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Marco Checchetto, Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin explores the relationship between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in the early years of his training — between the events of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. The first of this five-issue story arc launches in January, 2016.
