I've read a mountain of books on ecological history, and Livingstone blew my mind. He was decades ahead of his time. He was a misanthrope, and he had few kind words for mainstream eco-activist organizations. But, he provided important answers to the question of how we got to where we are today. I also recommend his book Rogue Primate.

Way ahead of his time, Livingston "tells it like it is" and confronts the reader with what is obvious: mankind, as the most successful species on the planet, has removed itself from the natural world and, in so doing, has sown the seeds it's own destruction. A must read for any young adult and anyone concerned about the destructive human footprint. Livingston addresses issues far more concerning that climate change. Buy.
