The Human Services Committee was established in 1996 by the Mayor and City Council to:

Provide advice on the delivery of human services in the city;
Investigate emerging trends of human services needs in the city;
Identify unmet human service needs within the city.

Each member of the Human Services Committee is appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Applicants must be a registered voter and resident of the City of Fairfax for at least one year prior to application for membership, and remain a city resident during tenure on the committee. The committee is comprised of two at-large members and one representative of each of the regional boards and commissions listed in the drop down list below.

The committee meets the fourth Monday of the month in January, April, July and October at 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. This committee is comprised of 12 members; terms coincide with term on regional board.

Fairfax Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP)

This program sets policies and serves as directorate for the local programs within the local Alcohol Safety Action Program.

Fairfax Area Disability Services Board

This board advises local government about the service needs of persons with physical and sensory disabilities and implements the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Fairfax Area Long Term Care Coordinating Council

In an effort to meet the Long Term Care needs of the Fairfax area, the Council's strategic plan organizes priority needs into five service areas: Coordination of Medical and Social Services, Housing, Mobility and Transportation, Services for Older Adults, and Services for Young Adults with Disabilities.

Fairfax Area Commission on Aging

This commission informs the community of the needs of the elderly and makes legislative and budgetary recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on issues faced by the elderly.

Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Citizens Advisory Council

This council advises and cooperates with the court upon all matters affecting the working of the law and other laws relating to children, their care and protection, and to domestic relations

Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees

This board is responsible for library policies and for making budget recommendations to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board

This board oversees the establishment and operation of local mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse programs in the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church and Fairfax County.

Health Systems Agency for Northern Virginia

This agency plans for the health-care needs of the area and works with other regional groups on health-care issues.
