Old Man Logan Comparison: From Comics to Movie

Plus, a look at the evolution of Wolverine on the big screen.

We got our first official look this week of Hugh Jackman in Logan, the upcoming third solo Wolverine film which reunites the actor with his The Wolverine director, James Mangold. And the image, which portrays an aged, scarred take on the clawed one, certainly adds credence to the notion that this so-called final Jackman X-Men film will be an adaptation of the Old Man Logan story from the comics. (Update: You can now watch the Logan trailer here.)

That tale is set 50 years in the future, in a world where supervillains now reign supreme and Logan has forsaken the Wolverine name and the use of his claws. Of course, just like Michael Corleone, just when he thought he was out, they pull him back in, and he finds himself on the road with the now elderly Avenger Hawkeye. Obviously Mangold and Jackman's Logan will differ from Old Man Logan in many ways, since it's a Fox production and hence can't use Marvel Studios characters like Hawkeye, but it's clear that the post-apocalyptic setting and depiction of an old Logan whose powers are fading will take its cue from the comics.
