Gail Marquis played for tiny Queens College in New York, graduating in 1977, and twice received All-America mention while playing there. She averaged 19.9 ppg her junior year and over 20 ppg her senior year. In 2011 Marquis married her longtime partner, Audrey Smaltz. The couple then worked with the Freedom to Marry organization to legalize same-sex marriage throughout the country, which was successful with the 2015 US Supreme Court ruling. In 2013 Marquis was inducted into the Queens College Athletic Hall of Fame. |
