CUHK Announces Cancellation of the 88th Congregation and Honorary Degree Ceremony
In view of the escalation of the recent social unrest across the territory, and the continuous disruption to public transport services which has severely affected the accessibility to the University campus, as well as the safety of graduands and their family and friends, The Chinese University of Hong Kong announces the cancellation of the 88th Congregation for the Conferment of Honorary and Doctoral Degrees scheduled to be held on 21 November 2019. Nevertheless, Doctoral degrees will still be conferred on that date (21 November 2019) in the absence of the Doctoral Graduands without a ceremony, after which degree certificates will be issued as arranged. A celebratory graduation event in the University campus will be held at a date to be determined. The ceremony for conferment of Honorary degrees will be held at an appropriate time in due course. The University regrets any inconvenience caused.
Special Announcement for Return of Academic Gown
Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Graduates
As the University MTR station has been reopened, the Bachelor and Master Gown Return Deadlines has been deferred to 18 January 2020 (Saturday) . A penalty of HK$40 per working day will be levied and deducted from the rental deposit if your gown is returned on or after 20 January 2020. Please find the venue, date and time for returning gowns on our Facebook page.
Doctoral Degrees Graduates
In view of the circumstance that the graduates may need the academic gown to attend the celebratory graduation event, for those who have rented doctoral degree gowns, you can keep your gown until the event date WITHOUT any additional rental fees and NO late penalty will be charged. Regarding the gown return arrangement after the celebratory graduation event, we will announce it after the confirmation of the celebratory graduation event date.
For those who have already returned your gown, you could borrow it from us again without being double charged with a rental fee. We shall announce the gown borrowing arrangement after the event date is confirmed.
