Mediacorp celebrates 20 years of Suria with anniversary concert and fresh offerings

Singapore, 13 January 2020 - Mediacorp celebrates Suria’s 20th anniversary with an exciting line up of activities to thank its fans and viewers for their unwavering support. Since its inception as a Malay language television channel on 30 January 2000, Suria has become a household name amongst the Malay community in Singapore. Celebrations will begin with a Suria 20 Roadshow on 1 February at Wisma Geylang Serai followed by a grand anniversary concert, Suria Elektra 2020, on 7 February at the Theatre at Mediacorp. Both events are open to members of the public for free.

Suria Elektra 2020 will be graced by President Halimah Yacob and will feature special performances that pay tribute to the channel and take audience on a nostalgic journey to relive its iconic programmes through the years. The show will be hosted by popular TV personalities Najip Ali, Nurul Aini, Huda Ali and Khairudin Samsudin. It will bring together Suria’s leading hosts, actors, singers, along with highlights of the channel’s progress and achievements over the past 20 years. Fans can look forward to seeing a spectacular audiovisual experience featuring our homegrown singers Aisyah Aziz, Sufi Rashid, Rahila Rashun, Anugerah Boys Hyrul Anuar, Fauzie Laily and Syed Azmir as well as veteran performers such as ‘Papa Rock’ Ramli Sarip, Jatt Ali, Hanafie Warren, Rahimah Rahim, Ann Hussein and many more who will be part of the momentous gala.

As part of the celebrations, Suria will also showcase brand new programmes such as Forensik, a spin-off of Channel 5’s Code of Law; Couple Cosmo, the star-studded drama series that brings together iconic families of popular Suria’s dramas; sci-fi special telemovie Raksasa; action packed mixed martial arts mini-series SAGA, along with the return of well-loved gameshow Te:Ra Seh! 4.0.

Suria Elektra 2020 will be available ‘live’ on 7 February 2020 from 8.30pm to 11.00pm on Mediacorp’s Toggle and Suria. Viewers can look forward to the glitz and glamour of the red carpet segment Suria Elektra Glam from 7.00pm to 7.30pm on the same platforms.
