Disney's 'Frozen': Jonathan Groff from 'Glee' voicing lead Kristoff
Jonathan Groff, otherwise known as rival show choir singer-turned-coach Jesse St. James on Glee, is officially voicing the lead role of Kristoff in Disney’s in-production animated feature Frozen.
Walt Disney Animation Studios announced the casting news Wednesday. In Frozen, loosely based on Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale The Snow Queen, kind and fearless Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) teams with mountain man Kristoff (Groff) and his reindeer friend Sven for a journey through ice, sleet, snow, and trolls to find her older sister Elsa (Idina Menzel), who is magically able to control wintry conditions, causing a perpetual winter.
Chris Buck (Surf’s Up, Tarzan) and Wreck-It Ralph screenwriter Jennifer Lee are directing the movie based on a script co-written by Lee. Groff, handsomely ego-driven and dapper on Glee, and as a political climber in the recently canceled Starz show Boss, was nominated for an acting Tony in 2007 for the Broadway show Spring Awakening.
Indeed a good fit for next year’s chilly, snow covered season, Frozen opens in theaters on Nov. 27, 2013.
