Founded in 1999, IDW quickly rose to prominence as an award-winning publisher of comic books and graphic novels, cultivating a formidable library of world-renowned licensed brands and creator-owned original concepts. Based in San Diego, IDW has since grown into a fully integrated media company now including IDW Games, IDW Entertainment, Top Shelf Productions, and the San Diego Comic Art Gallery.

IDW Publishing is regularly recognized as one of the top comic book publishers in the US. Over 80 IDW titles have appeared on The New York Times Best Sellers list. The company publishes approximately 450 comic books and 220 graphic novels annually.

IDW publishes some of the most successful licensed titles in the industry, including: Hasbro’s Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony; Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog; Netflix’s GLOW; Sony’s Ghostbusters; the Marvel Action line of middle-grade comic books designed for younger readers; Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Adventures; multiple monthly Disney titles; and many more.

IDW’s long tradition of supporting independent voices has yielded such atmospheric and evocative creator-driven titles as 30 Days of Night by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, Jonathan Maberry’s V-Wars, Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo, Delilah S. Dawson’s Star Pig, Ragnarök by Walter Simonson, and Beau Smith’s Wynonna Earp.

IDW Publishing is also home to acclaimed imprints such as; The Library of American Comics, which publishes classic comic reprints; Yoe! Books, a partnership with Yoe! Studio; Black Crown, home of Eisner-nominated Lodger and Femme Magnifique; and the multiple award-winning IDW Artist’s Edition line which includes Frank Miller’s Daredevil, Jack Kirby’s Kamandi, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts, and many more. In 2015, IDW acquired Top Shelf Productions, an award-winning publisher of graphic novels. Top Shelf is renowned for its works of literary sophistication, including the #1 New York Times and Washington Post Best Seller March by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell; and the authorized graphic novel adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

IDW Games publishes both creator-owned and licensed tabletop games. The division launched in 2014 and found immediate success with one of the top-selling card games of the year: the Geekie Award-winning Machi Koro. IDW Games offers a mix of popular licensed games, such as Dragon Ball Z and Batman the Animated Series, as well as strategic hobby games, such as Towers of Arkhanos and Tonari.

IDW Entertainment (IDWE) is charged with developing, financing, producing and distributing creative, diversified and targeted entertainment content ranging from series and features to interactive experiences and digital content from sister company IDW Publishing’s extensive IP catalog of comic books and graphic novels, as well as from third party content. Since launching in 2013, IDWE has successfully delivered three seasons of the critically-acclaimed Wynonna Earp, which debuted on SYFY in the U.S.; Spike TV in the UK and Australia; and Netflix Globally. The company is also in production on a Netflix series adaptation of the popular comic book Locke & Key by Joe Hill and show run by Carlton Cuse, slated to premiere in 2020. IDWE has completed production on the Netflix Original series V-Wars set to premiere in 2019, starring Ian Somerhalder; and October Faction also slated to premiere in 2019.

In 2015, IDW opened the San Diego Comic Art Gallery. The SDCAG is a unique and dynamic space designed to educate and engage the local San Diego and larger Southern California communities with sequential comic book and graphic arts. The SDCAG is located in the NTC in Liberty Station and contains a gallery of original art from comics and animation, a retail space, a working artists’ studio, and a research library.
