DIY SOS began in 1999 and was rebranded as The Big Build in 2010, and rather than fixing homeowners’ DIY blunders, the show now enlists the help of local tradesmen and the community in order to undertake bigger projects for deserving causes. Last week, the show – presented by Nick Knowles – screened the first of a two-part project building a new home for a boxing club in the heart of the Grenfell Tower community.

Back in 2008 we first honoured Michelle with our Best Soap Newcomer award, for her role as Corrie’s Tina McIntyre. Since leaving the soap in 2014 her credits have included Ordinary Lies and Tina And Bobby. She wins her first TVChoice Best Actress trophy for her role as Georgie Lane in Our Girl, the military drama in which she replaced another soap favourite, Lacey Turner.

Irish actor Cillian has built up an impressive list of film credits including playing Scarecrow in The Dark Knight Batman films. However, he’s honoured tonight for his biggest small screen role, as Tommy Shelby, leader of the infamous Peaky Blinders, who became gangland supremos in post World War I Birmingham.

It’s a second TVChoice trophy for the marathon three-hour chat and cooking show hosted by broadcaster Tim Lovejoy and chef Simon Rimmer. Since their last victory in this category (in 2016), Simon has competed in Strictly Come Dancing, with his elimination in week six providing his co-host with endless ammunition for their friendly banter, which regularly focuses on the success of their rival football teams, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Despite a tricky year for Ant McPartlin, who is currently taking a break from TV, fans have stayed loyal to the Geordie duo’s Saturday night stalwart, which scoops its sixth TVChoice award in a row tonight, for the run which saw Scarlett Moffatt and Britain’s Got More Talent host Stephen Mulhern step up to assist Dec with presenting duties.

ITV had a huge hit with the ‘he said, she said’ drama, which aired last autumn. The series, which was created by Jack and Harry Williams, who had previously written The Missing, teamed up Ioan Gruffudd and Joanne Froggatt as Andrew and Laura and they will return for series two next year.

It’s a baker’s dozen for I’m A Celeb, as we hand over an amazing 13th trophy to the ITV show that sends celebs into the Aussie outback to bond and eat bugs. This win is for the 2017 series which saw one of the lesser-known campmates, Made In Chelsea’s Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, win the crown and make a firm friend in Boris’s dad, Stanley Johnson.

Fans of the saucy seaside series were sad to hear that this year’s 10th series would be the end of our visits to Spain’s Solana hotel. Since first airing in 2007 Derren Litten’s comedy has made favourites of characters like the Garvey family and The Oracle. While the show may have ended, several of the main cast are currently performing Benidorm Live around the country.

The first series of David Attenborough’s look at the world’s oceans was screened in 2001 and took five years to film. While Attenborough remains a TV favourite, fans had to wait 16 years for Blue Planet II, which was screened last October and was the first natural history series to premiere on the same day in the United Kingdom, Nordic regions, Europe and in Asia.

Since 2013, the saga of a family of Birmingham gangsters has been steadily building a devoted fanbase, and the cast, which includes Helen McCrory as matriarch Polly and Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, leader of the Peaky Blinders. The team are about to start filming series five, which will see the hit show rewarded for its success with a move from BBC2 to BBC1.

But Emmerdale fans were stunned when Tom revealed himself to be Joseph, son of the late Chris Tate and admitted that the romance was part of a revenge plot on his former stepmother Charity.

Recently Mick’s been involved in a plot which has seen him learn that childhood friend Stuart is a sadistic bully, with a shooting in Walford as the latest twist.

Emma Atkins made her first appearance as Emmerdale’s wild Charity Dingle in 2000, having beaten another future soap favourite Suranne Jones to the role. After causing chaos in the Dales she quit in 2005 but returned in 2009 to wreak more havoc. Recently fans have watched Charity cope with the news that her second child, Ryan, who she thought had died at birth is alive and well.

Coronation Street wins our top soap award for a year which saw the end of producer Kate Oates’ reign over Weatherfield. She’s set to take over at EastEnders next month and also enjoyed a hugely successful stint running Emmerdale. The highlight of the year onscreen was the demise of villain Pat Phelan, while other storylines have included the return of Carla Connor and the controversial rape of David Platt.
