ABOUT
THE COURSE
Electronics
& Instrumentation Engineering is a multi-disciplinary stream that covers
subjects from various branches such as chemical, mechanical, electrical,
electronics, biomedical and computers. The course is framed with specialisation
towards robotics and industrial automation. Automation is one of the few fields
where the demand for skilled talent is growing very fast. There is a growing
demand for individuals in the field of Industrial Automation with an emphasis
on Robotics, Distributed Control System and Programmable Logic Controllers.
This program will prepare individuals to competitively challenge for a variety
of positions in the automation and control systems areas. Typical fields of
employment include R&D units, aerospace companies, pharmaceuticals, food
industries, power plants, steel plants, fertiliser plants, automobile
companies, biomedical companies, oil refineries and petrochemical industries.
Graduates
will develop practical skills and understanding of the processes and methods
that are applied to develop and implement an industrial automation. Graduates
fill job positions such as: Instrument Engineer, Automation Engineer, Control
Engineer, Instrumentation Technologist, Control Systems Technologist,
Automation Specialist, Robotics Engineer etc.
PLACEMENTS
Graduates who passed from this department have been
placed in many central government organizations like DRDO, ISRO, IOC, BARC,
NTPC, HAL, AAI, etc. and many reputed MNCs like TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, HONEYWELL,
EMERSON, ABB, ALSTOM, LARSEN & TOURBO, ROBERT BOSCH, KENTZ, INVENSYS, GE,
SUZLON, WHIRLYBIRD, ESSAR, YOKOGAWA, POWERICA, COAL & OIL, R. K. POWER GEN
and VEDANTA.

Department Laboratory Facilities:
The department is sophisticated with the following laboratories,
The
Process Control Laboratory is sophisticated with Programmable Logic Controllers
(PLCs), Distributed Control System (DCS), Supervisory Controller and Data
Acquisition System (SCADA) which take over the absolute control of the various stations
like the Batch Process Station, Bottle Filling System, Water Level Controller,
Speed Control, Computer Controlled Processes like flow, pressure, level and
temperature. It is equipped with smart transmitters, closed loop pressure
control station, pneumatic controllers, feed forward controller, ratio
controllers and cascaded control systems. Students are also trained to design and
implement controllers for different processes.
Virtual
Instrumentation is the use of customizable software and modular measurement
hardware to create user-defined measurement systems, called Virtual
Instruments. The main focus of the Lab is modeling
and simulation of Virtual Real Time Systems. The major soft wares included in
the Virtual Instrumentation Lab are NI LabView,
MATLAB/SIMULINK, etc.
The
purpose of training in the Industrial Instrumentation Lab is to impart adequate
knowledge and expertise to handle instruments generally available in an
industry. The lab is equipped with dead weight tester, spectrophotometers,
viscosity measurements and DPTs.
The
characteristics of different electronic devices such as diodes, transistors,
etc., and simple circuits like rectifiers, amplifiers etc., are studied.
The Integrated
circuits lab provides facilities to learn about the linear and non-linear
applications of operational amplifiers (741). Students are made familiar with
the theory and applications of 555 timers. Students are made to design
combinational logic circuits using digital ICs, to design circuits using
operational amplifiers for various applications and to design various
combinational circuits using various digital integrated IC’s.
Measurement lab
is well equipped and enables students to understand the fundamentals of various
measuring instruments.
Transducer
Laboratory is equipped with modern sensors and measurement instrumentation
equipment, which helps the students to study different mechanisms of
measurement of temperature, pressure, density, humidity, displacement, force,
speed, torque, stress etc.
