The BLT artist project is an ongoing collaboration between artists Jina Valentine and Heather Hart which, in its 10 year existence, has sought to fill holes in the documentation of contemporary art history. BLT's aim is the production of discursive sites at literal and metaphorical lunch tables, wherein people of color can engage in critical dialogue on topics directly affecting our communities. They endeavor to create spaces, online and off, mirroring the activity and creativity present in sites where Blackness and Art are performed, discussed and consumed.

The Black Lunch Table invites local community members to participate in a Wikipedia edit-a-thon hosted by Project Row Houses, which affords the public an opportunity to share, communally, the histories and stories of artists of color important to Third Ward, Houston and the national conversation on art history.  This edit-a-thon series engages the public in creating, updating, and improving Wikipedia articles pertaining to the lives and works of visual artists of the African Diaspora.  Participants will be provided with a list of pages to add or edit, which includes local black visual artists and those who have installed their work at Project Row Houses.  The Black Lunch Table and Project Row Houses will provide technical support, research materials and tutorials. Participants should bring a laptop or tablet, power cords.

The Black Lunch Table is brought to Project Row Houses as a part of the Visual Artists Network Residency, supported by VAN NPN.
