BETTER KNOW A MOD: RAINSOLO

In this segment, we'll be interviewing one of our amazing mods, who help maintain the discourse in our Discord and corral the chat in Youtube. Today's subject: Rainsolo.
Hi Rain! So - why "Rainsolo"?
It is a riff on Han solo. I was trying to come up with an online tag and could you believe that Han Solo was already taken? I ended up settling on rain because I THINK it was raining outside, either that or I was in 5th grade and sometimes things just sound cool.
Honestly, that's the exact level of thought that went into the canonical explanation for how Han Solo got HIS name, so I think it works on multiple levels. What about that dog? Is that your dog, or just a very good dog? Give us all the dog deets.
All dogs are good dogs, Ayla is no exception, but unfortunately she is not mine. She actually belongs to a friend of mine and I just love her so much that she ended up being my avatar. At this point I can't imagine NOT having my pfp be a very good dog.
What's your deal in real life? (to the degree you want to share personal information with a huge group of semi-anonymous strangers)
Lemme shake off the existential crisis brought on by this question real quick. As some of you know, I recently got my PhD in Geophysics and am still working as a researcher at the university for the summer as I finish up some things. Other than that, I'm a huge Dodgers fan. I've played and watched baseball my entire life and am still not bored. I will also endlessly talk board games with anyone who will listen.
Let's start with the PhD IN GEOPHYSICS part - how do you balance BEING A DOCTOR with corralling discussions about pretend food people?
With a lot of grace and dignity obviously. The fandom is so incredible and honestly very respectful of the mods (please never change), so despite that Calorum feels like staring into the Abyss, it at least winks back at you occasionally like a friend. It also helps that a lot of BEING A DOCTOR sometimes involves running code that takes a couple hours and my sleep schedule deserves some internal review.
Also - Dodgers, nice. Love those Brooklyn boys! (just started Ken Burns' Baseball, hope nothing drastic changes with that team!)

So how long have you been part of the DROPOUT Discord?
Sometimes it feels like I just got here, but apparently it has been 18 months.
How did you get into DROPOUT?
I was watching collegehumor on the main site a bit and saw the ads for Dropout when it was first announced, but wasn't too sure about subscribing. I watched the first bits of fantasy high and um actually as they appeared. Eventually, needing to know who ACTUALLY wins the episodes of um actually broke me down and I decided to pay for Dropout. Finished up Fantasy High before joining the discord because I loathe spoilers and now here I am.
Wow, one of the few people reading the collegehumor main site til the end. Bless your soul Rain. So - favorite Dimension 20 PC and NPC?
Finally a question I get to make enemies with. I think favorite PC has to be Kingston Brown. I love all the PCs, but the way Lou plays Kingston Brown makes me feel happy and like my heart has been stepped on and I think that's nice. As for NPC, my boys Hobbert and Frod from Bloodkeep are just far too precious to ever pass up. All they wanted in life is two things: the door to stay closed and a picnic. It's a mood.
VERY solid choices. Is there anything you want to leave people with? A link to your paper on megathrust earthquakes (a term I will never be able to forget), a message to the Discord, or something else entirely?
Oh gosh, I guess I want to say that I truly love this community that's been created here. I hope that if you're someone reading this and you haven't jumped into the Dropout Discord yet for any number of reasons that I can convince you to give it a try. It is truly the most hard hitting, fact finding investigations of Dimension 20 coupled with in depth discussions on whether the seeds in Calroy's strawberries are actually eyes. It is wild fun and I've made so many friends here, you could be the next one! And one last thing, a curse upon Orpheus's house for giving me the nickname Dr. Megathrust. Love you all!
