How to get a copy certificate

We hold records of all births, adoptions, stillbirths, death and marriages in Jersey from 1842 to the present day and all civil partnerships in Jersey from 2012 to the present day.

You can request a copy of the following certificates online or come into our offices:

  • birth
  • adoption
  • stillbirth
  • death
  • marriage
  • civil partnership

You’ll need to provide as much information as possible about the certificate you need. It usually takes three to five working days to produce.

Certificate costs

A standard certificate costs £30 and a short form certificate costs £10.  If you can't provide the date or parish of who the certificate is relating to, you will be charged an additional £30 to find the record.

You can collect your certificate from our offices for free, or we can post it to you for an extra charge of:

  • £1 for a Jersey address
  • £2 for UK and other Channel Islands
  • £3 worldwide

Life events which occurred before 30 April 2002 were originally recorded in French*. You will be required to specify, at the time of ordering, if you would like the certificate left in French or translated into English (translation is free of charge)

*there are some exceptions to this. Some life events were originally recorded in English. In such circumstances we are only permitted to provide these records in English/

Express certificates

Express certificates can be provided in one working day. The standard certificate costs £60 and a short form certificate costs £20.
