I’m so excited to be teaming up with 24 amazing bloggers to bring you a bunch of beautiful, inspiring fall tablescapes and place settings! I love fall (as you know!), so I’m so honored to be a part of this fun blog hop!
I know! I showed you my fall table a couple weeks ago! But I changed it up a little AND added this cute (and super simple) project that’s perfect for your Thanksgiving table! You know … that holiday that comes between Halloween and Christmas?! It kinda gets lost sometimes, doesn’t it?
I went fairly simple with my table this fall. I started out with a drop cloth table cloth that I made a couple years ago. I layered a plaid piece of fabric (didn’t even hem it!) and a couple pieces of barn wood over that. Then came the plates (no fancy glasses or silverware in this house – sorry!), a few scattered leaves, a moss-covered wood slice, and a vintage white enamel pitcher. Nothing fancy, but totally gets the point across!
I added cloth napkins to the plates, but decided they were a little too boring, so I updated them with a little embroidery. I embroidered a fall pillow a couple weeks ago and thought the idea would translate easily onto these napkins.
Here’s how to make them.
First, cut out an oak leaf shape. I know, the picture above shows an acorn and this is a leaf. Well, I tried the leaf first and then did an acorn. But then I put the acorn picture on the graphic! Silly girl!
Anyway…cut out your leaf, er acorn, shape to make sure it’s a good size.
Once you know it will fit where you want it, center it on the napkin. And then cut it out correctly! Jeez, I’m obviously having a hard time here with my pictures!
Okay, once you’ve cut your shape out, trace it onto your napkin with a permanent marker. Then grab some fall-colored yarn and a large needle (mine is from an old scrapbooking kit) and start stitching along your design. I just kind of stitched haphazardly. I learned long ago that if I start out a project trying to make it perfect and then end up messing up toward the end, I’ll be really upset. So, if I start out with a more “handmade” look and I mess up down the road, I can work it into the design and make it look like it was meant to be. Thus the reason I stitched haphazardly!
And here is the leaf napkin!
And the acorn …
See? Super simple project for your Thanksgiving table that anyone could do! And you could even change it up other fall-ish designs, too!

great idea Allison! The light brown yarn has such a great natural look when stitched up on the linen napkins. I actually thought it was jute at first. I love handmade elements and you nailed it with this one!
