The S1 course develops an understanding of the contemporary world through looking at the themes of Media, Politics, Inequality and Globalisation. Each unit of work develops particular skills relating to the handling of presented information as well as deepening knowledge of important contemporary events. The course shows the importance of understanding contemporary events, critical analysis of how events are reported and the interconnected nature of the world today.

In S2 these themes continue to be developed through a study of contemporary world issues from the Middle East to Russia and the development of Global Terrorism and the world response to it. There is a strong investigative element to the courses and we seek to develop pupil confidence in researching and presenting their findings on contemporary topics, such as the mini-election we hold in S1 or the instigation into Russia in S2.
